First signs in potential break-up of the United States emerged two days back when Texas Governor, Rick Perry, in an anti-tax protest stated that Texas might secede from the union if state of affairs do not improve in Washington. A Russian professor, Igor Panarin, had earlier predicted the break-up of the US into six countries by 2010, due to rising debt and fall in the value of currency.

Texas is known to be an independent-minded state and Texans have always been proud of their heritage. Texas, in its history, has remained part of 6 countries (The US, the confederacy, Mexico, Spain, France and the once independent Texas itself). Texans like to honor the flags of all six States at the State House.

Governor Perry was not joking when he threatened that Texas could secede. The constitution of Texas or that of United States does not disallow Texas or any state from secession. Joining the union was voluntary and withdrawal can also be voluntary if the people of Texas choose to do so.

It is not a surprise to see such views coming from the Governor of a southern state at a time when an African American has been elected president. After all the American civil war between the north and the south took place at the issue of slavery and independence of blacks.

What a complete joke!! The question of secession was settled in 1865. It will not be re-opened. States can be added, NEVER subtracted.

Would be good for Texas.

TS I believe you are incorrect as well. Catch these lines from a document you might have heard about,

whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and institute new government . . .

Thirty-one percent (31%) of Texas voters say that their state has the right to secede from the United States and form an independent country.

However, the latest Rasmussen Reports poll in the state finds that if the matter was put to a vote, it wouldn’t even be close. Three-fourths (75%) of Lone Star State voters would opt to remain in the United States. Only 18% would vote to secede, and seven percent (7%) are not sure what they'd choose.

Texas Governor Rick Perry, in response to a reporter’s question about secession at a protest "tea party," said Wednesday, "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that? But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot." The comment was widely reported in the media.

Texas is a largely Republican state. The Bush family are from Texas.

These days the Republicans are not happy that Democrats, particularly Obama, have entered the White House. Fox news channel is a Republican channel, just watch that channel to see what the Republicans say about Democrats. The country may divide between Republicans and Democrats.

Honestly, I liked McCain better than Barack HUSSEIN Obama..lol..Obama is more of an Athiest. He's not a Christian or a Muslim.

It is already divided!!

How does religious affiliation or affect running a democratic country.

Infact Bush was really religious, did that help you any, Mr. Omar..

Yep its already divided Republicans vs Democrats. I meant the country might split along political lines. Republicans are really upset that Democrats, especially Obama, have made their way into the White House.

I dont dislike Obama because he's an Athiest, I dislike him for other reasons...its some people in U.S. who question his faith, he's definately not a Muslim. I dont think he's a Christian either, I could care less about his beliefs. I think McCain was a much more honest man.

Texas probably has the best chance at success. Here is how it can work. The annexation agreement made when Texas joined the union provided that Texas would be able to divide into 5 states. This would create 8 more conservative Senators.
If Texas were to try to divide and be rebuffed, the US would be in violation of the agreement and Texas should be able to go free.
It is not all that far fetched.
Rising Star Rick Perry: Texas Can Secede|But As For Me
but it's impossible as America's Federal Government is providing Medical Care Plans, Security etc so 75% people still wants to live in Union..

So in your wisdom, If an American republican party looses to the democrats, the best solution to their defeat is to create their own country? Lol, thanks for the laugh Omar.

And by the way, American politics have been there since it's creation. Yes, I'm talking in 'Centuries'. Union (composed of Republican states) went head to head against the 'Confederates' for the UNITY of 'UNITED' states. And if you know anything about the civil war, you'd know about the bloodshed caused because of their differences. They've handled a much more 'bloody' division in the past, and you're here thinking that today's republicans would split the country JUST because they had a defeat from a black man?

Seriously, read up some history.

It might not split now, but it may later on. Its just my opinion (just like how some Americans have their opinions on Pakistan). Take it easy!

Yes it's your opinion, but It needed a bit of a reality check that's all. It's not like as if Obama was nominated 'President for life'.

Well he'll most likely be preident for another 7 and half years. I'm sure he'll make some drama up like Bush did to get his second term. Americans want this war to end within Obama's term.

Lets wait and see what the U.S. does with the world now during Obama's term :usflag:

Perry fires up anti-tax crowd

04/15/2009

By KELLEY SHANNON / Associated Press

Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"

An animated Perry told the crowd at Austin City Hall — one of three tea parties he was attending across the state — that officials in Washington have abandoned the country's founding principles of limited government. He said the federal government is strangling Americans with taxation, spending and debt.

Perry repeated his running theme that Texas' economy is in relatively good shape compared with other states and with the "federal budget mess." Many in the crowd held signs deriding President Barack Obama and the $786 billion federal economic stimulus package.

Perry called his supporters patriots. Later, answering news reporters' questions, Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.

"There's a lot of different scenarios," Perry said. "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

He said when Texas entered the union in 1845 it was with the understanding it could pull out. However, according to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Texas negotiated the power to divide into four additional states at some point if it wanted to but not the right to secede.

Texas did secede in 1861, but the North's victory in the Civil War put an end to that.

Perry is running for re-election against U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, a fellow Republican. His anti-Washington remarks have become more strident the past few weeks as that 2010 race gets going and since Perry rejected $550 million in federal economic stimulus money slated to help Texas' unemployment trust fund.

Perry said the stimulus money would come with strings attached that would leave Texas paying the bill once the federal money ran out.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, also Republicans, have been outspoken against the federal economic stimulus spending and were supportive of tea parties in their states. The protests were being held throughout the country on federal income tax deadline day to imitate the original Boston Tea Party of American revolutionary times.

In an appearance at the Texas Capitol last week, Perry joined state lawmakers in pushing a resolution that supports states' rights protected in the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He said the federal government has become oppressive in its size and interference with states.

Since then, Perry has been featured on the online Drudge Report, and other conservative commentators and citizens have latched on to his words.

After praising veterans in the cheering crowd Wednesday, he said: "I'm just not real sure you're a bunch of right-wing extremists. But if you are, we're with you."

Perry said he believes he could be at the center of a national movement that is coordinated and focused in its opposition to the actions of the federal government.

"It's a very organic thing," he said. "It is a very powerful moment, I think, in American history."

For her part, Hutchison issued a newspaper opinion piece Wednesday criticizing the Democratic-led Congress for spending on the stimulus bill and the $1 trillion appropriations bill.

"On April 15 — Tax Day — some in Congress may need a reminder of just who is underwriting this spending: the American taxpayer. I am deeply concerned over the swelling tax burden that will be imposed on all Texas families," she wrote.

The crowd at the Austin tea party appeared to be decidedly anti-Democrat. Many of the speakers were Republicans and Libertarians.

One placard said, "Stop Obama's Socialism." Another read, "Some Pirates Are in America," and it showed photographs of Obama, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wearing pirate hats.

Rebecca Knowlton, 45, of Smithville, said she took the day off of home-schooling her three children and brought them to the rally to teach them about civic duty. Knowlton, a critic of the Social Security system and the United Nations, said she felt camaraderie at the demonstration.

"The movement is growing stronger," she said. "You're not alone."

A while back, In Tennessee they had a convention regarding succession in 07 I believe. About 30 thousand people from various states showed up.

I doubt if it is ever gonna happen though.

Secession Movements in the USA
I heard a report on the radio this morning where Chuck Norris was talking about Texas and other States and the potential for them to seceed from the Union. This got me wondering just how many secession movements were actively going on in the US. The results suprised me. (the following come from a wiki search, I did not verify any of them)

Alaska

California-California Republic

Eastern Seaboard-Atlantic States of America (consisting of Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, NJ, NY, Connecticut, RI, Massachusetts, Vermont, NH, and Maine)

Lakota Sioux-Republic of Lakotah

Maine-Republic of Maine

Minnesota-People's Republic of the North Star

New England-New England Confederation Alliance

New Hampshire

New York City-Free City of Tri-Insula

New York State-Independent Long Island

Oklahoma-Indian Nations Republic of Oklahoma

The South-Confederate States of America

South Carolina-Republic of South Carolina

Southwestern United States-Aztlan (dependent on Mexico)

Texas-Republic of Texas

Vermont-Green Mountain Republic of Vermont

British West Florida-Dominion of British West Florida

The thing that suprised me the most is that the secession movements aren't confined to the Southern US. Secession movements have sprung up all over the country. Less than 2 weeks ago I read an article where a Russian scholar predicted a total financial collapse in the US and martial law in effect by the end of 2009 and our country dissolving into 6 seperate countries by the end of 2010 or 2011. I laughed when I read the article. But as I read more, study more, and learn more, I don't think it is as farfetched as I first thought. Our country is bitterly divided on so many issues, taxes, guns, abortion, gay marriage, most of these are issues that were originally left to the states to decide. Now the Federal Governement has grown so large that the states have no rights. Check out this website:

The Tenth Amendment Center

There are states who have passed resolutions calling for the Federal Government to stop violating the 10th Amendment and States Rights. These are facts. These are really resolutions that states are debating and passing.

For those not familiar the the language of the 10th Amendment it reads:

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or the people.

How many times has Congress violated this? Think gun control, abortion, gay marriage. It doesn't matter if you are for or against these issues. They are issues for individual States to decide, not the Federal Government.

I have no conclusion. This is just an interesting observation.
