Security increased near co-ed schools

* Model Town SP says police officials met school principals to discuss security plan

Staff Report

LAHORE: After receiving an intelligence report from the Home Department about possible terrorist attacks at co-educational institutions of the city, the police have increased security near such schools, Daily Times learnt on Tuesday.

Sources in the Police Department said Inspector General of Police (IG) Shaukat Javed had received the report from the Home Department. They said the report warned of possible terrorist attacks at co-educational institutions, TV channels and hotels.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Pervez Rathore has issued written and verbal orders to all divisional superintendents of police (SPs) to take effective measures to thwart any terrorist activities. Meanwhile, the SPs issued orders to deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and station house officers (SHOs) to collect data of all co-educational institutions in their jurisdictions and hold meetings with the heads of these institutions to ensure security measures for the students.

Meanwhile, security was tightened at all sensitive places of the city. The number of security personnel deployed outside the Civil Secretariat and civil courts was increased. Special measures were taken to ensure security of PTV, radio offices and private hotels.

Meetings: Model Town SP Rana Ayaz Aslam said police officials held meetings with the principals of various schools to inform them of the possible security risk. He said the collection of data of all schools would help formulate a comprehensive strategy in this regard.

Spokesman for the CCPO said the SPs held meetings with management of schools and gave them their contact numbers for timely action in case of a terrorist attack. He also advised schools to set up closed-circuit television cameras to enhance security.

Now this is something unbearable.
First, the innocent people, then the Army, then they also included the Air Force, FC, lately the Police and now the kids.

What the hell!
It's time to take some serious measures now.

No more baby sitting.

Bloody Basta***...Targeting innocent children in the name of god.

On a lighter note. I think such terrorists should be forcibly admitted to co-ed schools after being captured....think that l be the best torture and their worst nightmare come true. A lil grilling from the teacher can knock some sense into their peanut brains.

Lemme tell you...a lame terrorist can't take such dynamic actions. A serious brain is behind all this.

What a strategy i must say.

They exactly know where our soft belly is.

This whole 'gang' has to be uprooted, otherwise just cutting off the buds will never end it.

Although it is slightly irrelevant to this topic but still would like to share here, one of my friend recently changed the name of Baitullah mehsood to Bait ul khala mehsood.

Now bait ul khala either means his upper floor is empty( which I firmly believe) or he is a **** which can only be found there. But in his case both are correct.

I understand where you are coming from, but I don't think it is decent to interchange the word 'God' with the one for 'Toilet', just seems a bit tasteless to me.

But then, his killing of innocent people and terrorising of the populations of Pakistan deserves much worse than that. A bullet to the brain should do the trick, methinks.

Why is that pakistani army is finding it hard to send in their troops to these taliban strong holds and clean it up, no bombings or something send in troops..!!! Musharaf was pretty bold enough to attack the lal masjid. Is it that, the extrimists influence in the critical security establishements or something.. or down the lane is there a slient support to them by the influential..!!!!

For the sake of the Nation

I expect more bravery from our 'trusted and brave' security Guards, when actions goes down many times these cowards run off, dereliction of duty, they fail to do their job.

They should be armed and trained. The entire nation must raise it's security level, our street guards, school guards, and police should be educated and trained to deal with the new threat(s) that face the Nation.

Again more bravery from these security guards would help a lot...smh

Another thing I once posted is Pakistan must work on establishing a new layer of security to protect the Pakistani nation, this being national vigilance. Today more Pakistanis are aware of the danger to the country, and more Pakistanis are now vigilant of such dangerous activity, and now more Pakistanis are "packing heat" to protect themselves and the country.

It is a good sign to see this new level of National Vigilance. Sometimes we cannot rely on security guards and must take matters into our own hands.

It is difficult for them say if troops enter a village they have to differentiate the talibs and local population and in middle of the conflict how do u do that and if civilians get killed in crossfire army will be bad mouthed .:tsk:

Sorry Srivatsa but I just cannot make myself believe that. Pakistani Army is the local army. They are not some supposedly ignorant Americans who cannot distinguish between the locals and the militants.

Cross fire ? The Taliban are taking over the village and you are worried about Cross Fire? Are you suggesting that the local villagers would rather have the Taliban rule them than allow their own army to defend them?

I'm sorry, but there is such a thing as propoganda - which Pakistan knows how to use very well against India in Kashmir, but it cannot convince its own citizens to hate their real enemy?

Srivatsa, I do not hate anyone, not even Pakistanis, but frankly I cannot fathom why the Taliban is simply walking around unopposed by the country's army.

Bravery of guards etc is a given. Soldiers can only give their lives. Any No of layers of security will not help coz we would only be treating a visible symptoms not the ailment / infection.

We HAVE to realise that the algae is spreading across & cannot be ' contained". It has only to be eradicated.

What I have read in the 1st post does not surprise me at all. Only, I expected this to happen after a few months - maybe around July - Sept by when the initial consolidation would have been done post Swat.

This only shows that the fundamentals are more organized that we think. They are sticking to their game plan ?

Do we have one ?

^third eye, it seems that they are not even trying to contain it.

The most obvious way to contain it is to station troops in the areas surrounding SWAT valley, but even that basic step has not been taken. It is very strange to me - almost as if they want the Taliban to take over.

Stationing troops around Swat is an option but not the best as it would amount to tacit aceptance of their suzerainity in Swat & giving them a country. Swat is a part of Pak & GOP has to assert itself there within the treaty. If need be the treaty could be abrogated- for that a great deal of courage will be needed which is not visible .

Khala means space.

Is it only a security issue? I mean do pakistanis generally think that talibanisation is only a security issue? The sympathy the islamists got after the lal masjid attacks, the open support of taliban by Jamaat and other religious parties, the thousands of unregulated madrassas... is it just a security issue? or just an issue of 'padausi mulk' spreading terrorism?

my brothers, think.
