Terrorists threaten co-ed schools in Lahore! Children at risk

Is it only a security issue? I mean do pakistanis generally think that talibanisation is only a security issue? The sympathy the islamists got after the lal masjid attacks, the open support of taliban by Jamaat and other religious parties, the thousands of unregulated madrassas... is it just a security issue? or just an issue of 'padausi mulk' spreading terrorism?

my brothers, think.

These attacks started happening after US occupied Afghanistan and after Indians opened up their "embassy". I wouldn't be surprised if those two are working together to destabilize Pakistan

So the talibs threatening violence under directions from hindus or christians is a problem, but the talibs asking you to shut down co ed system in a 'peaceful manner' is not a problem at all? the lal masjid episode, was it zionists conspiracy too?

so there is no ideological issue that pakistan is facing? only a security issue? of american / indian / jewish design? i don't want to argue with you, its your country, you have to live in it. i was just sharing what i felt, no offence. peace.

This is the problem of pakistan - Living in denial and pointing fingers at non existent ghosts.

Solving this problem will -help them to over come a biggest hurdle in the way out. India and americans both will be only on loss if pakistan is destablised.

India pakistan relation were best when pakistan and india both were on path of prosperity.

It just that when you have bad time you accuse all the superstitious evils.

Threatening to blow up school is not a peaceful manner, then again it might in the RAW agenda.

Even now most of the Urdu media pundits and panelists insist that this not our war. You have bigoted politicians stating that videos are fake; this is all Western propaganda to malign Islam. This gives the impressions to the Joe public that Taliban are good people.

We as a nation have been brainwashed by the Urdu media and Geo TV to commit social and economic suicide for the sake of implementation of a much distorted version of the so called Sharia. This is totally different from the one in the Wahabi Saudi Arabia. Nobody blows up girl’s school or insist on every one having a beard or destroys barber shops in Saudi Arabia, but our pundits here like it.

One would have hoped that renowned Debobandi Scholars ( most Taliban are Deobandi) would have unanimously declared the above acts as un Islamic. Best we got was a Fatwa that suicide bombing against Pakistani Muslims was against Islam. Even this was not unanimous. On the other hand I read a post in this forum stating that Karachi University IJT is chanting “Sufi Mohammed aao hum tumharey saath hain” with Amir of JI declaring that he likes Taliban. This regressive attitude of Pakistan society is clearly evident from the pro Taliban posts which are there for any one to read in various threads about the video of the girl being beaten up.

But who am I to worry about it when the country as well this forum has far more intelligent and knowledgeable people ready to come to Taliban defence. Some even objected to calling Baitullah Mahsood ‘Kafir’; as if it really mattered.

I repeat the proverb “You ain’t seen nothing yet”. You just wait and see the camel will takeover the tent and throw you out. We refuse to accept collateral damage in the war against Taliban. Taliban on the other hand have no such reservations. Pakistan Army has the lost war before it began

Was pakistan not a peaceful country, before america invaded afghanistan?

Where were the Indian's building with their embassies, when Afghanistan was under Taliban control?

The only way they will be helping pakistan is by leaving Afghanistan, which they will have to anyways in the future.

Others are the problem of pakistan.

Thats not what i said. i said OK, threatening to blow up school is RAW agenda, BUT IF they (talibs, supporters) peacefully ask you to shut down co ed (symbolic of their many demands), is it ok? or even that demand is a RAW demand? or is that demand not a problem? because when you blow up all the indian embassies, catch and kill all the RAW terrorists, the demand of Talibs is still going to be there. don't you think?

just clarifying as i may not have put it clearly.

My view is that Pak is shutting its eyes to the inevitable . Hiding behind ' good' Vs ' bad' taliban is only postponing the cataclysm that will surely come. It may be sooner than we think. It will not take time for the good to turn bad.

This is comparable to what the national govt back in march 71 thought of events in EP. Problems do not get solved by themselves & most definitely by ignoring them. Whoever may be responsible for it is not important . What is relevant is who will face the brunt of it ?

Not the army who can & will protect themselves.. If co-ed schools are in the line now, how far are other similar measures ? In Af we have a living example of what can happen , it defies logic why harsh decisions are being avoided.

^third eye, it seems that they are not even trying to contain it.

Seems so eigh?

So why have we positioned troop along Bajur, Khyber and Mohmand agency. Why is our government planning on developing a 100K strong Anti Terrorism Task Force that equates to 20K for each province.

If we are not trying to contain the issue then why is Pakistani government submitting a bill for a new Rent Control Act which will require all occupants of landlords undergo police vetting checks, especially for short lease housing.

Hundreds of security checks have been established around cities throughout the country, in Rawalpindi city alone there are over 300 police check posts. In fact the security has become so tight that shipping containers cannot get in on time and there are worries it may cause a shortage of supplies in the markets.

Under the ministry of education a check will be made on all known madrassah's and they will have to submit reports to investigative officers from local thanna's (police stations) on a monthly basis on student attendance, number of boards etc.

An awareness campaign is being prepared for dissemination via media both print and electronic to build awareness on the issue of terrorism within the masses.

Hospitals and vital installation's are having revised security plans which are to include the stationing of armed police, walk through gates and traffic management.

Police Special Branch are to start conducting surveillance detection on all vital assets within their respective jurisdiction and a special hotline has been established by the FIA to autonomously tip off potential terror suspects.

Our organisation has approached the government and will be providing free seminars in schools throughout Islamabad and Rawalpindi to children in basic life support (First Aid) and general safety measures etc, this training is expected to start in June pending clearance.

Rescue 1122 and other organisations have trained in excess of 10,000 volunteers thought the twin cities and more in Lahore in First Aid, Fire Safety and general emergency response: Rescue-1122 trains volunteers

A new National security plan has been approved by the National Assembly and will be rolled out across the country in the coming months: New security plan approved ahead of NA session

Anti Car Lifting Cell has established a hotline for companies and individuals to check if a suspect car is stolen or has a record sheet, this service is available by just dialling the normal police emergency number 15.

A JIT : Joint Investigation Team has been established to investigate terrorist incidents nationally, this team will include staff from police, FIA, ISI, IB and the military.

Now if that is not a proactive approach, then i really don't know what else is.

Why doesn't anybody posts links related to such steps taken by GoP. All I see now-a-days is malignment of each other. Thanks for the info RescueRanger

Sorry Srivatsa but I just cannot make myself believe that. Pakistani Army is the local army. They are not some supposedly ignorant Americans who cannot distinguish between the locals and the militants.

Cross fire ? The Taliban are taking over the village and you are worried about Cross Fire? Are you suggesting that the local villagers would rather have the Taliban rule them than allow their own army to defend them?

I'm sorry, but there is such a thing as propoganda - which Pakistan knows how to use very well against India in Kashmir, but it cannot convince its own citizens to hate their real enemy?

Srivatsa, I do not hate anyone, not even Pakistanis, but frankly I cannot fathom why the Taliban is simply walking around unopposed by the country's army.

ya right...now i know why the American forces have been so successful in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Kill everyone!!

.
Why is that pakistani army is finding it hard to send in their troops to these taliban strong holds and clean it up, no bombings or something send in troops..!!! Musharaf was pretty bold enough to attack the lal masjid. Is it that, the extrimists influence in the critical security establishements or something.. or down the lane is there a slient support to them by the influential..!!!!

The reason for this is similar as for the indian army being unable to contain the freedom fighters in Kashmir!

Others are the problem of pakistan.

You forgot to mention the following:

$ 100 million in aid to afganistan

95 Tons of free medicine

Training of diplomats in the Foreign Services Institution in New Dehli

Afgani police officers going for training in india for 3 months

Cold weather clothing shipments to Afganistan

Construction the Tshkent-Afganistan-Chahbahar (Iranian port) to by Pakistan-for the oil and gas from the CARs.

Duty Free Trade for dry fruit and precious stone from Afganistan and medicines and other stuff from india.

All the 28 indian Consulates giving free medical care to the Afghani people.

Well sure indians have become greatest philanthropist!!!

i am sure sure why all this was NOT done when the Talibans were ruling Afghanistan, though at time they were the heroes for Pakistan, the US and the World! (as being the Soviet killers)!

let me interject with something.

The Taliban were not those fighters who fought against the soviets. Most of the Taliban were refugees in Pakistan, and their top leadership (Apart from Mullah Umar perhaps) were actually students at madrassa Haqqania while the Afghan Jihad was being waged.

The Mujahideen who fought against the soviets were not the Taliban, although many people in the Northern Alliance like Ahmad Shah Masood and Rabbani did wage jihad against the Soviets.

Mullah Omar is reputed to have been a footsoldier during the jihad too, but of no real consequence and none of his 'exploits' are documented.

The Taliban group was formed in the mid 90s, after the Soviets left Afghanistan, as a reaction to the lawlessness and infighting that had gripped former Mujahideen commanders and criminals.
