Four Indian cricketers, including batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar and 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, were today named in the Greatest All Time Test XI chosen in an online poll.

The other two -- Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag --beat a host of legendary cricketers to be named in the two openers' slot. They beat competition from the likes of Geoffrey Boycott, Jack Hobbs, Len Hutton, Hanif Mohammad and Herbert Sutcliffe.

Four Australians, two West Indians and one Pakistani also made it to Peoples' Dream XI as more than a quarter of million people voted on ICC's official website as part of the build-up to the England-India Test match at Lord's to celebrate the 2000th cricket Test.

Tendulkar occupied the number four batting spot, one slot down Australian legend Don Bradman and one above West Indian Brian Lara, who was chosen at number five. The trio beat the likes of Greg Chappell, Wally Hammond, George Headley, Javed Miandad, Graeme Pollock, Ricky Ponting and Vivian Richards.

Kapil was chosen as the lone all-rounder ahead of the likes of Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee, Jacques Kallis, Imran Khan, Gary Sobers and Frank Worrell.

Australian Adam Gilchrist won the poll for wicket-keeper by beating the likes of Mark Boucher, Jeff Dujon and Rod Marsh while Shane Warne got the nod of online voters ahead of the likes of India's Bishen Bedi and Anil Kumble and Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan.

Wasim Akram, Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath were named in the three fast bowlers' slots. The likes of Michael Holding, Dennis Lillee, Malcolm Marshall and Courtney Walsh missed out.

A beautiful thread to trolls.

.
Nice, before opening the thread i always knew that wasim akram would make in.

If people would look above the nationality emotions and give a neutral look its fair to say its greatest line up.

Close ones for Kapil is Shaun pollock, Lance klusenar, Imran khan Jaque kallis.
For Sehwag.......Hmmmm never seen a player of his type(Especially in Test matches)..He opened his own class.

For Gavaskar.. close ones could be Saeed anwar, Ponting, Haq, Dravid, Ganguly.

Shane and Murli are real close. Anyone's pick.

Don Is DON

No need to say anything about God:)

.
agree with all others but dont really with Kapil, I think either Imran or Sobers should have made a cut. Kapil is a legend for sure but I think Sobers was better than him for sure.

.
Where is Jacques Kallis Or Sobers ?

I would have chosen either of them instead of Kapil.

Rest seems ok.

@Desi - Imran ? seriously ?

No need to say anything about God:)

In tests, Rahul Dravid comes close second to Sachin. He would be my twelfth man.

.
the list is pretty accurate and the batting order fits perfectly with their respective batting styles, well sehwag is one legend when it comes to opening the innings be it any format of the game, same like gilly was among the best in odis.
.
.
btw its high time, Sachin should be called "Sir". Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, hope the queen realizes it soon.

you know what? it would be so amazing to see Chinese playing cricket surely they would come up with new techniques inspired by kung-fu may be.
.
.
wow what a sight it would be when a world cup edition would feature teams like USA, RUSSIA CHINA etc etc.

We might see a Kung-Fu- Cricket mutch like the Movie- ''Kung-fu Soccer''.

.
it is all down to nationality of voters and the players chosen. India has largest cricket followers and so 4 players.

.
Imran Khan would easily be in ODI Greatest 11, not test side.

And dont agree with Kapil inclusion as well.

Plus Tendulkar out and Dravid in

.
Sobers for Kapil ans rest is Ok..

.
I can understand Tendulker & Gavaskar. But Sehwag & Kapil Dev, seriously?

Sehwag, greatest all time test XI???? Gotta be kidding me.

You gotta listen to Umar Gul when he says that "in the first three overs Sehwag mentally destroyed me and after that I could not get back into the game" (WC semis). His value lies in not only scoring runs but mentally destroying the opposition by his daredevilry.

He is by far one of the best openers cricket has ever seen.

As I previously said I would even trade Sachin's slot for Dravid, but not Sehwag's.

Well to be honest, they are not many good openers in test cricket as compared to middle order batsman.

All the best batsman seem to bat at number 3 or 4. Hence Sehwag is unique.

.
Sehwag

matches- 86 innings- 148 Runs-7611 HS-319 Avg-53.60 100-22 50-26 SR-81.85

The consistency with that SR is something rare and that too for a test opening batsman ...
He sets up the game for you... and also look at the conversion rate

Also 2 tripple centuries along with the record for fastest tripple century
