RAJKOT: A temple dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat's Rajkot village is drawing supporters of the ruling BJP from neighbouring villages also.

It took around two years to build the temple and initially had a photograph of Prime Minister Modi. It rose to prominence after his win in the general elections last year.

Ramesh Undhad, who donated funds for temple building, said it took nearly four years to get the Prime Minister's idol made.

"This idol cost us Rs. 1.65 lakh. We tried getting it made from various artists for over three to four years but no one could make an exact copy of Modi. Then finally we called artists from Odisha and they created this idol, which looks exactly like Modi," said Unhad.

Unhad added that fans considered Prime Minister Modi as the second Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the country's most looked-up statesmen.

Meanwhile, village head, Mansukh Thumar, said every village should have a temple like this.

"Prayers are conducted in this temple in morning and evening and people from the entire village come to the temple including people from the neighbouring villages," said Thumar

The temple will be officially inaugurated by minister of state for agriculture, Mohanbhai Kalyanjibhai Kundariya on February 15.

Yes, but "worship" is a very versatile term in hindu culture. One meaning is "Bhakti", which is what you would understand as worship, the same that Abrahamic religions do to god. But there are many other emotions that are termed as "worship", for kings (or PMs these days), for parents, for teachers etc. Many schools have morning prayers proclaiming worship for teachers. None of this means that they consider any of them to be gods. It's more of a cultural, not religious thing. Think of it as a form of extreme respect, or more accurately devotion.

.
wonderful... pray to modi's idol while so many people died of hunger in the tea plantations of darjeeling just a few months back... they did because they had no money, because their plantations' owners could no longer pay them... those living humans died because of money and here are modi bhakts spending tens of lakhs on modi's non-living idol.

instead of barking on the internet why don't you do something yourself , sell your house and feed those people if you are so worried.
don't you start dancing like an IPL cheergirl whenever someone takes the name of your beloved gaddafi .

yes that one is a dawn news report without any pictures and i did not knew that it was already there ...thanx for updating mate

Actually when you create new thread, after just entering thread title, a list of suggested threads opens right under the title box. You can see in that list whether someone has already posted a thread with same title or not.

Mods are always going to merge the duplicate threads later, so if we check it in start, and instead of creating a duplicate thread, post in already running thread. It will make mod's job hell lot easier.

What is new in it?? and nothing astonishing. in South they worship actresses so what is wrong if Modi is worshiped.

Still their hard earned money their choice how to spend it......................
I know, I was saying the same thing. When mega temples and mosques spend more than that every single day, do people like Jamahir vent at them? Why the selective outrage for this particular temple? It's their choice how to spend their money.

I have no axe to grind with @jamahir , in fact I like his idea of Jamahiriya.

And his keyboard his response :P

You don't understand, it's not like they are considered to be gods. It's a form of adulation. It would be blasphemy for muslims, but its no big deal for hindus. But its not like they think they are actualy gods.

Personally I am against such hero worship, but I can't dictate how other people choose to express their respect.

Hindus Belive that every living Things has god with it . That's why we respect everyone . If tomorrow someone comes up with new religion and say he is a god . We respect him. Not because we belive he is a god but because the with in him. The only reason Hindusim existed till now it's because of respect to everyone. For us Mother is the first God Then comes Father Then comes Teacher Then comes the GOD Himself.

MANY religion existed for more than 3000 years and gone . Like Pagan Mithraism etc . But Hinduism still lives and Wonder fully growing even after invasions by Islamic and Christian rulers for 1000 years .

So guys don't make fun out of it . Just respect the god With in You and Respect the god with in Others . If some people make fraud out of this weakness it doesn't mean all religious beliefs are fake . :) Respect and love

.
I dont see any problem with that
Modi is a legend for the Indians
a living god no doubt.
