Tejas to cost 42 Million USD a piece to IAF

Tejas was a very big disappointment for all the indians at first as it was a very incapable jet. However, HAL are now improving Tejas tremendously and trying to fix their mistakes. It will be a good jet for India.

It will never be a excellent jet as long as a public sector like hal is incharge. Requires our private sector to get involved. They get results and fast.

Clearly you havent read AM Philip Rajkumars and KH's account. USA did not help us write code for FBW - they were helping us test FBW in their LM test facility. Next day of sanctions - everything was captured and scientists were asked to go back to India.
Sure - Algorithm can be re-written ! We are talking about million lines of code ! Lot of re-work, testing - people leaving their jobs. It set us back big time - for atleast 5 years. We did fly limited envelope in 2001 , but complete code was done much later.

You are overestimating USA assistance. Why would India air millions of lives of codes in USA laboratory and not keep backups via internet? Indian scientists would definitely keep a record of the codes for themselves instead of simply relying on USA to hand the codes over someday.
Secondly, Indian scientists were not given carte blanche over USA testing facility. It was only simulation and not real code based on real planes. For that matter, Su30 also has FBW codes which were shared by Russians with India. But one can't simply write that code in Tejas planes as there is a huge difference. So, don't talk trash that 5 years were wasted. 5 years is the total time needed to write FBW codes for a plane. India didn't write all the codes of Tejas and leave it behind in USA as Tejas plane was only started in 1996 with first funding.
So France will handover design and rights to India because India bought 36 copies? Do you have any source to back that claim?
India is buying 150 Rafale + extra money for offset which means the total payment will be equal to 200-250 Rafale's price. I don't have source as it is secret deal. But I can guess this as Manohar Parrikar had said to France while bargaining that India has Su30 and doesn't need Rafale. So, if India is buying Rafale, then there must be more than just imported planes. Also, one doesn't simply pay 4 billion dollars offset just for 36 planes. It makes no sense at all

If the LCA is so good, why does India need aircrafts in the same class such the Saab Gripen, F-16 etc. Shouldn’t the LCA suffice?

JF-17 price list

Block 1

For PAF - $16.1M

Block 2

For PAF - $20M
For Export - $30M

Not sure about Block 3 prices yet. Heard a rough figure But, it was no way near $42M. It is quite low compared to this.

i wouldnt go around and quote actual figures of cost between PAF and export. Not good for PAC or CATIC !!

really stupid.... they could have negotiated a deal with France on complete TOT of the Mirage 2000.... they would have hundreds of these in service..

so glad Indian think the way they think
For short term the Rafael's and su30s are enough but for the long term a homegrown jet is necessary. It's the 21st century, if india does not become serious now , does it wait for another 50 years ? Not supporting the HAL led effort though. Involve a serious private player like l&t or tatas and watch the difference in results.

Out of 42 million I wonder how much goes to foreign suppliers i would say atleast 35 million.

You are paying high price for the Rafales as it includes the money to grease the palm of your PM and crony capitalists.

Who said that? Why do you think there is 50% offsets? These offsets are technology transfers. That is why the Rafale deal is secretive. However, my analysis says that India will be using kaveri engine on Rafale. France will modify Rafale to for kaveri engines which produce 52/81kN thrust such is similar to M88 50/75kN thrust. In 1990, Rafale had used f404 with 52/78kN thrust as M88 was still under development.

So, the Rafale deal will involve transfer of Rafale design to India and India will for its own electronics and engines. So, India has design transfer in Rafale, though no actual technology is given. As I said, India has technology to make is own Su30 and won't import another plane without any technical assistance

Offsets are not equal to ToT.

The deal is secretive because you need to cover the tracks of whose palms have been greased.

And No! Safran is not going to share any tech with India. What they have proposed was that India drop the plan on developing the Kaveri engine and instead use M88 core to re brand Kaveri as your own indigenous engine.

Your guess is wrong. By huge margin.
what is your "guess" then..i am basing on news reports that atleast 60-70 percent of content is imported. and i beleive value content is even higher. What do you think of a plane which gets it engine, radar, avionics, seats, and the most critical part of airframe which is the front cone is imported from abraod.

first u need to how make a 4th generation jet... learn from people who know how.

regarding TATA... lol... all the tech they have ever got was from Foreign companies... they wont make a difference

it is your approach that is wrong... hey but keep doing things the indian way :)
