Tejas to cost 42 Million USD a piece to IAF

A PIECE

LoL, laughed out hard at this phrase...

Piyaz dhanya bikra hai ya chaunsa aam ?

@Mangus Ortus Novem @SIPRA

Reminds me, I am having a high craving for mango today.

On a serious note,

This per unit cost is quite surprising, i would want this price to be expanded with details and specifications and the Weaponry.

Block 3 won’t cost any less, would it @airomerix , More or less, Around $38mn as per my wild guess?

Also consider the program cost?
Tejas Program cost being reported at over 1 Billion USD..
Thinder program cost was one fourth of that?

Nigerian Thunders are $60 million a piece. Even if we set $30 million(which is a lot) for logistics, training etc it costs $30 million for BLK-2. So BLK will be roundabout $40 million.

No 500 mill was from PAF and 500 were from CAC AFAIK.

I don’t agree with $60mn per unit for Block 2 Thunders unless Nigeria is getting tons of spares including engines and weapons. Also maybe that these costs include some sort of Local Maintenance facility in Nigeria by PAF

I blame this on the Mittals and Ambanis and other Indian business tycoons involved in all their defense projects. They have to make money and to do that , they have to escalate the costs.

O Shahzade,

Tejas is not just any plane... we all make mistake while considering it such.

Now Tejas is The Entire Indian Ecosystem... we could call it a Piece ... of Art!

Given the level of Technologies used in IndianPlane.... it consider it to be rather Cheap Piece!

I think the good Indians are looking at capturing the Global 4.5+Gen Fighter market... that is why they have not accepted any American fighters... or Swedish... and Rafale was more to do with French support in the UNSC regarding IoJK than the need...

Tejas is going the change the Global Fighter Aviation Industry and is a huge challenge to PAF and PLAAF.

And if the good Indians are using special skin that their scientists developed for their stealth fighter AMCA... then Tejas is pretty much 5Gen!

It is high time that we start taking this Piece seriously! @SIPRA

Well done Indians, Well done!

Particularly, if they made use of ancient Lingam Technologies, in this aircraft; then we are done with. No hope, then.

Not for block 3. It will also higher then $35+ million a pop.

Deal includes spares , support and maintenance. Essentially you are looking at lifetime cost (excluding the fuel, upgrade ofcourse) and not flyaway costs !

that jets nose looks interesting never seen anything like that on a jet plane it that a flying co*k sorry lingham from ancient times?

It is from a project management - a F. Who ever was managing scope needs to be fired or retired.
You are comparing apples and oranges . Project management - F from what perspective ? If you look from western perspective - sure ! But then western aerospace has had the experience and knowledge. For us - it was baby steps !
It is usually said that - the first step is the hardest step ! Sure there were problems, embargoes due to nuke testing. Aerospace industry never gave up ! And today we have a fine piece of machine and in IAF we have a mean customer who at any given point of time can choose any foreign machine ! So LCA will always be compared to their western contemporaries - i would say it works great for us.

Proof of pudding will happen in how you will see future versions roll out quickly ! Great example is ISRO ! This will be the model that will be emulated and entire eco-system of aero engineers will be created

Lingam techonlogies ? Sure , it will be of great help to screw our adversaries - dont you think ?

Read a definition of a project.

Have read plenty ! Part of one. I suggest - you understand how an industry is created from scratch.
