TEJAS FACTS

.
i read some one just said MK2 will be a different league can i ask what would be so different about MK2 ?? change in airframe ?? or internal weapons bay to make it stealthy ?? or more hard point to make it from light aircraft to medium aircraft ???

power plant itself set to get upgraded ,

design improvement, with 65% parts modification

length to get increased , fuel to get increased..,

these are all big changes, like when jf 17 gets chinese WS engine..

. .
well i must say @HAIDER they were talking this and that about tejas before i came to get some info about there nearly 4 decades old project and you know what i found out ???? they are hell of a good Dodgers :D

decade from now, you also will be good in it.. No worries.

if you gonna use everything western than whats the use of the word Indegieous ???

Tejas, which finally achieved its initial operational clearance last month uses an American engine, British ejection seat, Canadian canopy sheath and Israeli radar. "A major chunk of its avionics and weapons are also imported. The series production of the Tejas Mark-II version, which is what IAF actually wants, is unlikely to begin before 2022," said an officer.

Hi
It achieved its IOC an year before . Please get your facts updates.

On its Radar being Israeli, again get your knowledge updated. The Radar presently in use is a Multimode Pulse Doppler Radar developed by DRDO in assistance with Israel.

Then by your logic, the
Engine of Gripen is American, its Radar is Italian, avionics by whole of Europe, composites by UK, Weapons from whole of Europe and America.

By your logic the Swedish content in Gripen is lower than that of Indian content on Tejas.

And the second point, the ejection seats are Martin Baker to ensure safety of pilots. If its about safety of your pilots you would definitely want the worlds best.

On it using an American Engine, come back to me when China gives you a Chinese Engine for jf17 thunder, not RD93 and its Chinese version.

Cheers
Thanks

Refer to my reply to Haider.

can copying be graded as indigenous ?
can modifying be graded as indigenous ?
can assembling be graded as indigenous ?

Hopefull it will fly on islamabad shortly
PLease send it here ON A TRUCK,I m waiting

Hi
Tarmak007 today conducted a chat session for its Facebook fans and Tejas Boss P S Subramanyam.

I hereby try to assimilate them here.
The facts below are responses by him to questions by fans.

●Astra missiles programme was actually initiated at ADA only. All the time the integration of ASTRA on to LCA has been kept in mind while evolving Astra. Once Astra is cleared on any other platform it will be integrated on LCA.

●3 more SP aircrafts will be delivered by year end.

●Rs 7,500 cores spent to develop 2 TDs, 5 prototypes and 7 LSPs and establish a production line. The most economical programme in the world so far for the above purpose.

●Radar Range of mk1 is 100 km for targets of size 2m^2.

● The Nose (Quatz) fron Cobham will increase the performance of radar by 15%. Meaning the present range of Radar is 86.9 Km if you do some maths.

●Thrust vectoring feature cannot improve any of LCA performance.

●FoC by Mar 2016 MK2 roll out before 2018

● Tejas Trainer can take part in battle.

●Naval aircraft will be cleared by carrier compatibility after the availability of our own aircraft carrier.

●The dry engine development of Kaveri is on.

● Tejas has quite a good range as ferry range of 1500 km is not small.

Tejas mk1 has moderate degree of stealth.

●The Open Systems Architecture of LCA facilitates continuous upgrade of Electronics hence prevents obsolescence.

●Internal Jammer to mk1 will be added at a later stage.

●From this year begining HAL is looking for a production rate of 16-20 aircrafts per year and it will take 3 years to reach that rate.

●Composites are 40 per cent by weight and 90 per cent by surface area.

●The pilots find this aircraft extermely pilot friendly in its handling qualities.

●FoC clearance will not come in the way of ramping up the production since the initial order is for IoC config.

●MK1 improved version in another 2 years.

●We expect the deliveries from Cobhmam by July.

●LSP 6 is being redied to pull 28 degrees AoA.

●Weight reduction is an ongoing process. And target to reduce weight by 6000 kg has been almost achieved.

●The LCA can carry Laser guided bombs with miss distances of hit of the order of less than a meter.

●OBOGS all the ground tests are over. Ready for integration on a prototype vehicle.

●The Cobham Radome will increase the range by about 10-15%

●COnfig design of AMCA is completed and Preliminary design is about to start. Engine requirements are also finalised.

●Present AoA is 24-26 degrees.

●Life span of Tejas is 30 years.

The facts above are not in order.

. . .
my question is... can tejas fly this year on your independence day or still planning to hop on a back of the truck :P just curious :D
Get your facts straight. Aircraft don't fly during Independence Day. They do during Republic Day! So yes, you'll not be seeing the Tejas fly on 15 Aug 2015! :P

Somewhere he said it is comparable to F-16.
Dada the statement is used quite loosely (especially in media) of comparing LCA with Grippen and now F 16.
The truth remains LCA is a unique platform and while it shares a lot of commonalities with F 404 powered jets, they can be comparable on certain parameters only.
F 16 is a far superior machine and to be honest it isn't right to compare LCA with it.
May be LCA Mk II will bring in capabilities of a true Multi-role fighter and will be comparable with the best in the world in its class.

FoC by Mar 2016 MK2 roll out before 2018
I guess it was December 2015, but looks like some more time is given.

Thanks a ton @Ankit Kumar 001 ..

for a long time we had been talking abt high productivity rate of 18-20 birds/per year in order to achieve the target of 200 LCA class birds in a span of 8-10 years (only for IAF).
The good news is Mk1.5 or improved Mk1 is a reality now. It was needed to meet the changing times.. AESA would be good.
Radar - 100 @ 2m2. I thot a 15% improvement would put it at 115km for 2m2 .. is 87@2m2 present status?...
For a point defence bird which is more for defending the airspace 1500 km ferry range is more than enough... The offensive is to be taken care by other platforms... the question is capability of point defence Since Tejas is improving its weapon payload mix, range and effectiveness (come july aug and bvr test success will mean a lot), the potency of LCA as a platform will surely improve..

A planned need for another line of 18-20 birds a year making the grand total of 36-40 birds a year would be awesome.. so that we can look at Mk1.5 and Mk2 in bigger number in quicker time frame...also then we can dedicately divert 10 birds a year production for IN.. (naval version)

The best is the fact that Tejas is in reality a class of fighters which can be continuously evolved and made according to operational mission needs. So Mk1,1.5, Mk2 and in future more evolved version would be rolled not just mere improvements but rather customised to meet the mission needs...Thats why this program is critical..

An improved Kaveri (better then GE 404 specs and similar to 414 specs) powering LCA in future would be a tremendous achievement....

The only downside is the professionalism and effective project management of all the parties involved in the LCA program including MOD/GOI/IAF.. All need to pull up their socks and make things happen instead of letting everything go slow ...

Compared to Gripen's 3200, its rather piss poor.

He didn't say anything about target size.

He said 6560 kilos.

It is 3000 hours. Once again rather piss poor.
Radar range he clearly stated 100 km for 2m^2 target compared to Jf 17 thunder 130 km for 5 m^2 target.

Even LCA clock 200 hrs annually then it would cross 6000 hrs.

Only thing disappointing is FOC one mre time extended till March 2016
