On asking whether the indigenously developed AESA radar could also be integrated with the indigenous light combat aircraft Tejas , Saraswat said, “ The work is already on and the Tejas Mark-2 will have nothing but the AESA radar. In fact recently when I was in our lab LRDE, they showed me 1/8 size of RA which is already operational in the same frequency band delivering certain amount of power with the TR (Transmitter & Receiver) modules. The work on the development of AESA for LCA is on.”


The DRDO developed AESA radar will be of same size and volume of the present radar integrated on Tejas Mark-1. Once the work starts for the Mark-2 of Tejas aircraft, the old radar will be simply replaced by the indigenous AESA radar.


“Now we can configure small as well as large AESA radar. The advantage of AESA is that as you increase the numbers of TR modules, the more power you get,” said Dr, Saraswat.




It is claimed that the Indian AESA radar can be compared with the best in the world in terms of resolution, performance and electronic warfare capability. The basic element of AESA radar which are the TR modules are being produced today by Bharat Electronics and other private industries in India.

1st HAL need to change attitude towards development of Tejas. They are delaying project again and again to get fund, so they can enjoy. They are not taking seriously production line, they are not able to build LSP in short time, then how can they do this.
and as they said 2018, indirectly it's means don't expect before 2022.

That's because Edison was creating something brand new in history. A fighter jet plane has been in existence for how long? Even though Indians are just copying and pasting old technologies, you are failing badly at that. Stop making excuses for your failure. You ain't no Thomas Edison.

I usually don't reply to 50 cent propaganda army ...but because Indians have also indirectly asked this question..here goes.

Its doesn't matter how long jet planes have been in existence ...India was starting from '0' and was creating something brand new.

..if we are failing badly ...we plan to try again and fail...and then try again till we finally succeed. Hopefully it will take less than 2000 tries. :smokin:

If I am not wrong he was making the first BULB in the world and not in his country. He was inventing something that wasn't there. By this example do you want to say same thing about LCA ???

Nobody here is saying ADA/HAL/DRDO should not make a mistake. The mear tone is avoid the the mistakes which they can. It's not a pride but the profession that makes the success in time.
Nobody here is against LCA but surely many of us don't like the way this project is/was being handled.

If you go through the LCA sticky thread you will find all there suggestions years before today. Plus be specific when you want to rant on somebody. Disscussion can make points clear not the ranting.

But how many countries are making an LCA kind of an aircraft? -- start counting and you may realize how few they are.

LCA is among the pioneering fighter jets (along with the Eurofighter) to use a huge percentage of composites in the airframe.

LCA jumped two generations of fighter aircraft design (from Marut, which was the last fighter designed in India).

We have to admit, they are not cutting corners.. but target to beat other choices available to IAF at a competitive price in this figher class.

And LCA has had a great flying and test record. Nil crashes and all tests passed successfully, so far.

If India were sanctioned with no foriegn fighters (like Mig-29, Su-30MKI, Mirage-2000, Jaguar, and probably next, Rafale) available... believe me, IAF would have inducted LCA in numbers comparable to J-10 (and flying with the Kaveri engine).

But then, we would not have been targeting to match the best in the world... and the LCA and Kaveri would ended spending huge amount (e.g. 200 planes @40 million would have cost $ 8 billion i.e. 44,000 crores rupees).

Now we divert those 44,000 crores (saved) to more R&D... and more high-end planes.

Inducting 200 low grade LCA (equivalent to J-10 level technologies - just hope chinese trolls don't start screaming !) is a much worse option than spending the money to design planes which can fly against western contemporaries.

I consider saving those 44,000 crores in manufacturing junk which would have been retired by 2018 .. to be a better option.

Use it on R&D .... we are not going to war today. And Su-30MKI et al are sufficient for current defence needs.

LCA jumped so many generations on papers because it's so late in every stage of the game and it's in a perpetual catch up mode to "jump" generations. Mark my word, LCA 3 will be six gen on paper in 2025.

J-10 is 8th gen :laugh:. Now get back to your coal mine...else the iron bowl will be taken back.

China defence lies in not fighting ... not because of "J-10".

That's why they don't feel safe and running for Su-35 etc.
