Tehran bans dog walking in public spaces

On the other hand cats very very rarely bite people in the public places.
and no I'm a doctor and see far far more cat bite and scratch than Dog bites .
first cats when they are young don't have that much control over their claws and believe me that claw is as sharp as it can get .also cat far more likely to get excited and attack you specially in their mating time or when they are nursing .
also they are territorial animals and my just attack you if they think you invading their territory. feral cat even can attack you when you are feeding them while this very rarely happen with dogs.

At least my pet T-Rex is still allowed.
bad news for you , we send the guys who has tamed cuties like T-Rex to these places

This bans is because of 2 dogs attacked a kid in the park and hurt her severely a cat wouldn't be able to do this ,, on one hand the decision is extreme & inhuman for animals on the other hand there should be a way to protect people & make dog or any other pets owner responsible .. surly you are right that kids should be taught to treat animals better but it's not always the case ..

a cat scratch and bite are show far less external sign but be assured are far more prone to infection like OsteoMyelitis.
the cat bite tends to be ignored by parents as it looks like a needle or Nail wound but it inject a lot of microbes in deep tissues and if not treated very easily produce severe infection that can even result in amputation .

by the way have they said why the Dog Attacked , did the owners encouraged it or did the child did something ? or the Dog attacked on itself ?

Yeah. . It does cause anxiety in public especially those countries where owning pets is not a norm .
I would personally change the street if I saw a dog there .

One of these dogs made me run around a jeep like 2 times
Kutay ka bacha was playing with me not biting , but I do get anxiety .

I used to get chased down by killer pitbulls when I was a kid stealing mangos from other people's fields. LMAO F Dogs.

Although I am not much of a fan of the mullahs, I applaud and cheer this decision.

In India, dogs have exploded in population since the late 90s and have often attacked people and sometimes killed them. And cats, they are almost extinct in many cities here because the dogs kill the cats, brutally.
stray dogs have increased. Pet dogs rarely attack someone in public places as they are mostly on leash. Those who leave their dogs loose need to be charged.

Iran's capital city has banned the public from walking pet dogs, as part of a long-standing official campaign to discourage dog-ownership.

Tehran Police Chief Hossein Rahimi said "we have received permission from the Tehran Prosecutor's Office, and will take measures against people walking dogs in public spaces, such as parks".

'Fear and anxiety'

He told the Young Journalists Club news agency that the ban was due to dogs "creating fear and anxiety" among members of the public.

As if this were not draconian enough, Brigadier-General Rahimi added that driving with a dog in your car was also banned.

"It is forbidden to drive dogs around in cars and, if this is observed, serious police action will be taken against the car-owners in question," he told the agency, which was set up by Iran's state broadcaster to train young journalists.

Owning dogs as pets, and walking them in public, has been contentious ever since the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, and owners have sometimes had their dogs confiscated.

Dogs are viewed as "unclean" by Iran's Islamic authorities, who also regard dog-ownership as a symbol of the pro-Western policy of the ousted monarchy.

The Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance banned the media from publishing any advertisements for pets or pet-related products back in 2010, and there was a push in parliament five years ago to fine and even flog dog-walkers.

The latest anti-dog drive has not created great waves on social media, although one Twitter user asked whether the people of Tehran will be forced to ride camels next.

In that case, it should be the owner instead who should be punished. When u get a pet, u r liable for its actions. Its ur duty to teach the dog to be comfortable around humans in public places and to keep ur pet on leash and be able to control the pet in case it attacks.

stray dogs have increased.

Yes, stray dogs have increased ever since Maneka Gandhi held government position from 1998 to 2002. She won a PIL that forbade municipal corporations from killing stray dogs.

So the situation now is that many dog attacks on humans and the near extinction of cats ( dogs kill cats brutally ).

India I think has the largest number of stray dogs in the world.

Pet dogs rarely attack someone in public places as they are mostly on leash. Those who leave their dogs loose need to be charged.

Yes, those who don't leash their dogs should be charged but it is rare, at least in India, for dog owners to leash their dogs. The dogs are left free and that creates an intimidating situation.

The second fellow looks irritated.

Excellent decision also increase dog catcher. These dogs are only good at biting innocent people

Pets are different from dogs.

I think a little more about it, I think that this argument is a contradiction in itself.

Moreover, if the Iranian State is indeed basing its persecution of dogs on religious dogma, then the "public danger to society" aspect of it is a little shaky, isn't it? I mean, humans have domesticated, bred and used dogs as pets and beasts of burden for thousands of years. They still do. How can the rest of the world be oblivious to this truth?

I'm strictly speaking about pets above, not stray or/and feral animals. I actually agree that feral and stray animals can be - and have been - a danger to humans, especially little children. Which is one of the reasons for the state to be especially strict with people that abandon their pets.

I personally haven't seen many such example who let their pet dogs roam free, yes some do but that is generally at night at around 11 pm when there are very few people out on the streets and even then they carry a stick. I have seen that such dogs don't attack others and if they even growl a lil, owner immediately steps in and hold the dog's neck.
Haven't encountered any off leash dogs during the day in streets.
Maybe its coz i live in delhi, but not in posh area of the city. Maybe the situation is different in other parts of the country.
But stray dogs are certainly a threat, especially at night.
