I don't think TS had such a deep thought before she posted the tweet. Her attempt was more towards taking a shot on Hindu sentiments rather than condemning the horrifying acts of ISIS. If she wanted to condemn ISIS, she could have done it in a more decent manner. (My guess)

Yup. But if anything, that image destroyed her secular image(if she had one before). It's clear now that she doesn't subject every religion to the same treatment as she does for Hinduism.

Yes and that is a common dishonesty from our self declared secularists who do not realize that how endangered the concept of secularism has become now a days.

It's high time we did something to reclaim that word back and restore it's actual meaning to it. This might mean expunging many self-declared secularists and inducting many self-declared rightists/leftists/centrists....because clearly, it doesn't fit anywhere in political ideology.

Nothing can bring the charm of word "SECULAR" we should use the word is Hindutva instead.

Because they are trained in such a manner that they believe reciprocating right wing fanaticism in the same language is equal to secularism. This is why they fail to condemn Wendy Doniger and her perverted version of Hinduism.

Like human rights groups and individuals across the world, I too am extremely outraged by the atrocities and the barbarism being perpetrated by the ISIS against Iraq’s minorities. In fact just two days ago (August 19), I joined activists, including my husband Javed Anand, at a Press Conference called in Mumbai to release a statement signed by prominent Indian Muslims denouncing the ISIS .
The press conference received wide coverage from the print media the next day. A friend contacted me saying he could prepare some visuals depicting the atrocities of the ISIS which I might consider Tweeting. I agreed.

I am traveling and was in a mad rush this morning preparing for a Memorial Lecture I was invited to deliver this afternoon in Kolkata. On receiving the friend's message, I took a quick glance at the illustration depicting the ISIS’ gruesome beheading of the American journalist. Looking at the visual as a whole, I did think the illustration needed reworking as it may be interpreted differently by different people. However, in the mad rush that I was in, I Tweeted the same with my caption, ‘Chilling’.

The moment I realised that the illustration had created a controversy and had hurt many people, I deleted the Tweet and Tweeted an immediate apology for having inadvertently hurt their feelings.
While reiterating my commitment to work for communal harmony, conflict resolution and peace building, I once again offer my sincere apologies for inadvertently hurting religious sentiments.

Setalvad is like a Tarek Fatah on steroids - so there won't be any backlash on the ground. Never have been in the past. She insults and exploits everyone - Hindus, Muslims ...everyone. All are just training flak guns on her in the internet and media is having a field day. In reality Indians don't have much time for such people.
