It is often believed that 65 is where the concept is rooted, because it was then that the PA successfully repelled an Army over three times its size but it was not actively expounded until the aftermath of the 71 war when the nation was arguably at its lowest ebb and needed something to get behind.
That being said, trends are changing now and people have moved past the whole "Fort of Islam", "Islamic Laboratory" nonsense. There is finally an understanding of how a nations state is supposed to function but Pakistan's attempts to establish a rational position for itself are cut short by extremists inside the borders and unfriendly attitude of foreign countries. There are very few countries that think well of Pakistan and therefore Pakistan remains constantly limited to those nations in establishing its bilateral connections.

ok if not everything surely a lot more than what we know about china.. do we even know what chinese want... most of the time we are just guessing... with pakistan at least we know they want kashmir.

Average Chinese citizens don't take India as a threat or enemy, in their eyes the true rivals are US and Japan. I don't know whom exactly Indian people think are their enemies but I guess their answers would be Pakistan more than China (though I know maybe I'm wrong) .
We are not hostile to you for we see India as another ancient civilization as we are, plus most Chinese know the Buddha are an Indian. Though dramatically India get increasingly known to Chinese citizens due to there are more and more TV programs and videos and stories about India, like videos about amazingly crowded Indian railways, funny Indian parades and India's ambition in military development, we see India with curiosity and fun rather than hostility.
Few Chinese cares about your ICBM & carriers but everyone knows yoga and curry, and images of Taj Mahal are on our text books. Many (illegal and deceitful) medicine ads claims they make use of ancient Indian tricks.
You think China is not a democracy and label yourself as the biggest one, but when it comes to India's political system we may think about the caste system and nobody would even link "democracy" to it.
We misunderstand each other too deeply and should do something to change it. Back to 1950s both countries are the leaders of the third world, representing the interest of the developing countries, but all efforts failed in 1962, due to your underestimation, or more properly, misunderstanding of China. Now the world sees us as two emerging powers and believe we will play bigger roles in international affairs, so we must focus on improving mutual understanding in order to build a better bilateral relationship, and that's beneficial to both sides.
