RAWALPINDI: Authorities have imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, a day before Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief, Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri’s homecoming, SAMAA reported.
The anti-Taliban fiery preacher is arriving home from Canada on Monday to kick off his ‘movement against corruption’. On Tuesday, clash between his party workers and police left eight people dead and over 80 injured in Lahore.
Qadri, who seeks army security on his arrival at Islamabad airport, has warned the government against any crackdown on his party workers.
Various political parties, including MQM, PML-Q, APML, AML and forces announced to support his in the anti-PML-N government campaign.
On Sunday, DCO Rawalpindi, Saqib Zafar, announced that Section 144 has been imposed in Rawalpindi district, prohibiting public gatherings and rallies.
He said the law will remain enforced till Tuesday 12pm.
The Section 144 has already been imposed in Islamabad where security has been beefed up at the airport and public places, with enhanced patrolling and snap checking in the federal capital.
Meanwhile, PAT spokesman claimed that police had arrested hundreds of party workers from various towns of Punjab during a crackdown.
Moreover, IG Punjab Mushtaq Sukhear presided over a meeting in Lahore to review security situation in the province on the occasion of Qadri’s arrival.
