Well that's good, the West should stop playing games with them. Especially after Cyprus and Greece.
Yes. However Turkey is a partner for many important projects such as the F-35. We should take into account that the Chinese company is sanction; this includes companies working with them. So America will have the power to sanction Turkish companies involved.

Who wants to be left to the mercy of USA; this is the fault of the government for allowing such thing and not to mention the allies of Turkey...

To stay on par you have to develope further,in a couple of years this system will be outdated as it happens with evrything.
The US have THAAD,the Russians S-500,the Chinese HQ-29,and all of these countries still developing better systems.
You cant sit still, you have to move.

I'm really looking forward to S-500 and HQ-29....

Why are they sanctioned? Source? I don't think the USA would sanction turkish companies because there is no reason to do so as of now...the government I believe according to my understanding was refused several missile defense systems and this is why they went to this option.

The Chinese company producing the FD-2000 is sanctioned.
The United States announced sanctions on CPMIEC for violations of the Iran, North Korea and Syria Nonproliferation Act.

It did not say precisely what CPMIEC had done, but Washington has penalized the company before. In 2003, Washington said it was extending sanctions on the firm for arms sales to Iran. It was unclear when those measures were first imposed.

AKP and Erdogan has been an absolute disaster for Turkey during his last term. The graft problem pretty much proves it. But it's more amazing how blind people chooses to be because of the things Erdogan has done during his 2 terms. It's absolutely necessary to do clean up AKP. and turkish politics.

. . .
So build off of that? I like that idea and think it can do many positive things.

-bring jobs at home
-export future weapons
-increased military expertise

......and what you said about having the option to build a sensitive military aspect at home.

......
If it's on par with others why not just go with it?

Their is one important point more. You can chance the geo political situation. For example, export high advanced weapons to a party that you support, which is in a conflict with another.

Turkey says open to alternatives to Chinese missile defense system

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said on Sunday Ankara had not yet decided which missile defense system it would buy and it was open to bids from other companies besides the current Chinese favorite if these guaranteed joint production.

NATO member Turkey’s decision last September to choose a $3.4 billion offer from the China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corp (CPMIEC) irked Ankara’s Western allies as the Chinese company is under U.S. sanctions for violations of the Iran, North Korea and Syria Nonproliferation Act.
U.S. and NATO officials also voiced concerns that a Chinese product would not be compatible with other NATO systems.

“Turkey did not decide yet which system should be bought.. for us three criteria are important - joint production, the time of delivery and price,” Ahmet Davutoğlu told a panel at the Munich Security Conference.

The deal would mark a breakthrough for China in its bid to become a supplier of advanced weapons. But Davutoğlu said Turkey was still negotiating and he had held a meeting with a U.S. company a day earlier.

“The Chinese company was the first because they offered us joint production. Joint production was important for us,” he said.

Rival offers from Franco-Italian Eurosam SAMP/T and U.S.-listed Raytheon Co RTN.N, the maker of Patriot missiles, were also in the running he said.

“If the other two companies give us the assurance of joint production in Turkey and the transfer of technology, of course we wish to have this with NATO allies.”

NATO’s top military commander urged Turkey last November to buy a missile defense system that is compatible with other NATO systems.

“Everyone knows how difficult it is if you want to buy something from the United States, there is a long process of getting permission. If those companies are offering us joint production it is negotiable,” Davutoğlu added.

@Sinan

They offer so much joint production projects to Israel, such as the Iron Dome system, Sparrow missiles system, merkava, navy equipment....

I don't get why they wouldn't come with open arms to their ally Turkey.

Very nice question indeed. For me answer is simple. West will never want a strong Turkey in the region.

.
Well, if west can best China's offer with better weaponry, it is understandable for Turkey to take the better offer.

According to Turkish Air Force Commander, Chinese air defence system will be integrated to NATO network.
