T-129 Atak & Turkish Attack Helicopter Programs

.........a free Happy Meal at McDonalds? :what:
It could be anything, maybe an agreement to send u.s troops if russia gets too threatening or something, or just in general for them to integrate with the u.s more so that way in case something happens between poland and russia the U.S can help them easier because they are using the same equipment. America can donate gear and the Poles already know how to use and so do the american troops there.

For example here poland is getting free air defence.
U.S. and Poland reach arms deal - latimes

Another example with the F-16:

"Shortly following Poland’s announcement it would purchase the F-16, Charles Edelstenne, Dassault Chief Executive Officer, made it clear that he felt the choice of an American fighter over a European one was a political decision. Edelstenne noted, “The political element was the dominating element, much more than the quality of the material and the price. I felt for a very long time that they [Poland] very much favored rapprochement with the Americans. So, it’s not a surprise.”95 While not as vocal in their views, the Saab/BAE team also expressed disappointment in the ultimate decision. These sentiments pointed to an underlying current of politics vice financing, offsets, and capabilities in the decision to purchase the F-16. The politics were framed in the context of European and U.S. relationships as they existed at the time. On December 27, 2002, the day Poland announced plans to purchase the F-16, Ambassador Hill, in commenting on the deal, stated, “It represents more than an airplane. It is a fundamental choice about strategic political and military relationships.”96 This statement, indeed, pointed toward the significance of politics. Kai Olaf Lang, a specialist on Central and Eastern Europe at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, elaborated further: “The Polish political class sees the country’s future as resting on two pillars: on a close relationship with the U.S. and the [EU’s] Nice Treaty, which guarantees Poland almost the same voice in European affairs as France or Germany. Poles view the U.S. as the only realistic guarantee against something going wrong in Russia. The Nice Treaty, on the other hand, is their way of preventing Germany and France from controlling Europe.”97"

Lol, silly Poles US would put a Missile Interceptor Base there even if they didnt choose their choppers.
But overall they want to get close to America. If they get T-129 or other turkish gear there is a slight possibility that if Russia was messing with Poland that Russia could influence Turkey via gas prices or other mechanisms to stop Turkey from supplying arms to poland, there is not even a slight possibility that America would not provide weapons to Poland so thats why I think they will choose the apache.

Turkey will never do that, especially to Poland.. Turkey knows that any such kind of move, will cut its future export.
Also, they share historical relations with Poland and too much turkish investment in Poland economy.. I believe, they might choose t129. They made happy EUrope and USA, now its time to make good relations with Turkey.

Sure they'll select T-129.. It's not like Poland will have to contend with thousands of Russian tanks, if things heated up of course.

Rolls-Royce, Honeywell Said to Bid for Turkey Helicopter Engines
April 29, 2015

by Ercan Ersoy & Isobel Finkel

Rolls-Royce Holdings and Honeywell International are in joint talks with Turkey’s state aerospace company to provide military and civilian helicopter engines, two people with knowledge of the situation said.

Turkey’s state-owned TAI, or Turkish Aerospace Industries, plans to buy at least 10 engines for helicopters to be manufactured at the company’s plant in Ankara, the people said, asking not to be named because the talks are confidential. The company may start talks with Turbomeca SA of France should talks with U.K.-based Rolls-Royce and U.S.-based Honeywell fail, one of the people said.

Turkey initiated programs in the mid-2000s to build its own planes, helicopters, tanks and navy vessels as part of an effort to cut military spending and boost its manufacturing industry. The nation has the second-largest military in NATO, after the U.S.

TAI, which is planning to raise about $300 million in an initial public offering, is working on developing its own engine for the helicopters, one of the people said. Until then, the engines will be purchased from other suppliers, the person said.

A TAI corporate communication officer didn’t respond to calls seeking comment on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Honeywell spokesman Chris Martin and Rolls-Royce spokesman George McLaren said LHTEC, a 50-50 partnership between Honeywell and Rolls-Royce, currently provides CTS800 engines for the T129 Atak helicopter in Turkey. That engine can also be used for future needs in the country, they said, without confirming a new bid.

A Week in Istanbul
April 29, 2015

istanbul.jpg

Next week members of our team will be in Istanbul as we attend the bi-annual tradeshow, IDEF, held between 5th – 8th May. With a packed schedule of meetings and a bigger and better booth compared with 2 years ago, IDEF is a highlight of our calendar. The event brings together key stakeholders from the defense community in Turkey, as well as industry players from around the region.

In 2013 Honeywell attended the show for the first time and it was an exciting experience. The show, just like the country was vibrant with possibilities. Growth is rapid in Turkey and there are a number of new platforms in development which provide us with some great opportunities to provide technology solutions to complex operational requirements. Partnerships are key to our aspirations, as we work with our partners to help Turkey achieve its ambition of becoming self-sufficient in the defense industry as the industry works to design, develop and manufacture completely new platforms for their national defense requirements and for export.

At the exhibition we will be showcasing our satellite communications, safety and flight-deck capabilities as well as meeting with our key customers and partners in this important region. Our activities in Turkey span a wide range of applications including providing power for the T-129 helicopter with the LHTEC CTS800 engine, which is produced in a 50:50 partnership with Rolls-Royce. If you are at the show, please stop by booth 221E to learn how we are making the possibilities of partnership a reality in Turkey.

Yes but they did buy 7 billion worth of Patriot missiles. It's funny I won't diss the US or NATO, but WTF? The russian s-300pmu2 is a lot better than patriot. For 7 billion you could buy (not literally) a hundred batteries. Well, Turkey tried that, and uncle Sam and NATO don't want it. NATO should indeed be mutual defense and indeed mostly purshasing NATO-brands, but the HQ-9 and S-300pmu2 are just so much bang for the buck. NATO shouldn't be a shakedown project. I hope the hq-9 goes through.

About the ATAK in Siirt, is that a sort of Beta-testing? Or is the ATAK certified now? Either way, good news.
