What's new

T-129 Atak & Turkish Attack Helicopter Programs

Hope we can also get new updates on the status of the TS-1400. Who knows maybe it has gone farther down testing than what we know.

I guess it still in the ground test process. I guess we will see it on the sky around september

I’m gonna just guess that it is the T-629 from the wing design and the size of the mockup. A 10 Ton heavy attack helicopter would be bigger, compare the silhouette of this to that of the Apache(10 Ton) or even to the Mock Up from IDEF19. The wing design of the Atak2 in the new TAI phone app is also flat and the E/O is buried into the hull of the helicopter. This looks more like a beefed up T-129.

With this wing design it can’t even carry any stingers on it because they are too short which ATAK 2 will be able to from promo material we have seen.

It is possible that T-629 and Atak 2 will share design philosophies. Seeing how both are being developed by the same engineers it would make sense that they would share a design with differences of course.

also you ain’t gonna carry 16 UMTAS missiles with that wing design for Anti-Armor tasks.

Everything for me screams T-629, we also know that flight test for it supposedly will start soon. So the timing would make sense.

Also the looks don’t matter as long as it performance well and can become a export hit with a good price to performance ratio.

I still don’t believe The heli introduced on Tusaş application is the 10t Atak-2. The design lines of it, especially cockpit establishment are identical to current mock-up. TAI may place an order of this mock-up before applying the final changes. What I think We will see somerhing similar to this helicopter as T-629 at final. Wings may have some changes.

Maybe it is an extremely cheap version for exports?

Countries in Africa and Middle East would be interested despite the ugly looks.

Nobody, I mean absolutely nobody in the world will care what it looks like if it works. Not just africans.

That being said, I believe this is not a final design - just a testbed or a mockup.

Here is another such example: Boeing Vertol 235

Isn't it the Army primary desire that the flir doesn't cover the pilot's field of view? Regardless, such a mock-up should not have come out.

Wing design and length, Cannon placement(and design), Flir placement, exhaust length are all different. This isn't ATAK 2 but T-629.

Comparing the wings alone is enough evidence. One has barely enough room for hydra rockets and UMTAS Missiles, while ATAK 2 has enough room on the wing for Hydra Rockets, UMTAS Missiles and Stinger Missiles.

Like I said T-629 and ATAK 2 might share design lines but that is about it between the two.

design may be ugly but it may also be more stealthy. Reminds me a bit of the Comanche

If you don't like the design, then give it over to Pakistan Aeronautical Complex to manufacture and forget you ever made it. Out of mind and out of sight :P ... We won't mind, it looks more or less at-par with India's LCH (if looks matter).

Indian army doesn't even want to buy that helicopter.
