Syrian rebels target Hezbollah militia, fire rockets into Lebanon

If IRAN is such a loyal muslim country then how will DAJJAL come from asfahan with 80,000 jews backing him?
Why IRAN has let such a huge number of jews to reside there?
Your game is a lie.
Iran - America - Israel a drama triangle.

I think it's more like hostage situation...most of Islam sacred mosques being in Israel and idf wouldn't allow Iran or any other Muslim countries to fire their missiles blindly at Israel....keeping huge no of Jews in Iran won't allow Israel to destroy Iran....may be you're right....it's a drama triangle

TRIPOLI, Lebanon: Lebanon’s northern city of Tripoli witnessed the worst night of clashes since fighting between supporters and opponents of President Bashar Assad in the city erupted over the weekend, amid fears the Lebanese Army might withdraw from the area.

According to observers, the shelling, which tapered off at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, was marked by heavy use of mortar bombs and rocket-propelled grenades.

In a one-hour period during the night, at least 47 mortar bombs rained on Lebanon’s second-largest city, forcing many residents to huddle in corners of their homes they felt could offer shelter.

Around 4:30 a.m., a 300-strong force of Salafist fighters from the mainly Sunni Bab al-Tabbaneh neighborhood, which backs the uprising in Syria, tried to launch an offensive against gunmen loyal to President Bashar Assad in the opposite area of Jabal Mohsen.

They were repelled by Lebanese soldiers, who opened fire with heavy machine guns.

In all, 10 people, including two soldiers, have been killed and over 70 wounded since hostilities erupted Sunday, shortly after Syrian government troops backed by elite fighters from Hezbollah launched a major offensive in the rebel-held strategic city of Qusair near the border with Lebanon.

The big guns fell silent around 7 a.m. after fighters, exhausted from the long night of clashes, took a break. However, intermittent sniper fire could still be heard Wednesday morning.

“We are so exhausted. We decided to take a break until 11 or 12 noon [Wednesday],” one commander in Bab al-Tabanneh told The Daily Star.

A

Rifaat Eid, leader of Jabal Mohsen’s fighters and the head of the Arab Democratic Party, accused gunmen of Bab al-Tabbaneh of igniting the latest round of clashes.

“For the past three days, gunmen from Bab al-Tabbneh have been firing at the Army and attacking [military] positions along with non-stop sniper fire on the Jabal,” Eid said in remarks published Wednesday.

“We have relayed a message to them saying ‘enough is enough,” Eid added.

In a Facebook post Tuesday night, Eid said: “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, the provoker is most to blame ... This is the last straw. You will hear the roar of Jabal Mohsen.”

Local sources said concerns were growing about the possible withdrawal of the Lebanese Army from the embattled area.

A security source predicted Tuesday that unless clear instructions were issued to the Lebanese Army and security forces to firmly intervene between the two rival factions, unprecedented clashes would erupt in the night.

Tripoli notables have been appealing for the Army not to withdraw out of fear that extremists could gain control of the port city.

Several shops along Syria Street, which divides the warring neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen, were set ablaze during the night.

Schools and universities as well as banks and other businesses were closed for a third day Wednesday.

Two rockets hit Hezbollah district of Beirut

At least three people have been wounded by a rocket strike on the southern part of the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Two rockets hit a district controlled by the Hezbollah organisation, officials and residents were quoted as saying by news agencies.

Tension has been high over the conflict in neighbouring Syria.

On Saturday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah promised his supporters they would prevail in Syria, where they are backing President Bashar al-Assad.

There was no immediate indication who had fired the rockets but Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said the projectiles, believed to be 107mm rockets with an 8-km (5-mile) range, had been fired from a position to the south-east.

Dozens of militants from Hezbollah, a Shia Muslim organisation, are said to have been killed in recent fighting alongside Syrian troops, who face a mainly Sunni Muslim opposition.

The fiery speech by the Hezbollah leader had raised fears that the involvement of his fighters in Syria would have repercussions in Lebanon, the BBC's Jim Muir reports from Beirut.

The leader of Lebanon's mainly Sunni March 14th movement, former Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, said that what Hezbollah was doing in Syria was "political and military suicide", our correspondent notes.
'Failed to explode'

Mr Assad is fighting to end a revolt against his rule which began just over two years ago and has left at least 80,000 people dead and made refugees of some 1.5 million.

An unnamed Lebanese security source told AFP news agency the missiles were Grad rockets, a Soviet-made weapon.

One rocket struck a car showroom, causing injuries and damaging vehicles,

Reports suggest those injured were all Syrian workers.

The second rocket hit a residential building. An unconfirmed report said that rocket had not exploded.

A Reuters news agency photo showed the face of a building pockmarked by what appeared to be shrapnel, while video showed shattered windows blown across a living-room.

Another photo showed dazed men with cuts to their legs being treated in the street by friends.

"This incident is probably related to the conflict in Syria," AFP's security source said.

The Syrian conflict has heightened Lebanon's own sectarian divisions, at times spilling into open conflict.

Fighting in Lebanon's northern town of Tripoli between factions supporting the opposing sides in Syria has left at least 25 people dead in the past week.

Inside Syria itself, opposition activists said many Hezbollah militants were killed on Saturday during fighting for the western town of Qusair.

this van was offered by Hezbollah to Syria to offer a propaganda against Israel
you can see how old it is
it was used in 2000 in Lebanon by Israel: Hezbollah took it to them

By Israel or by SLA, but the important part remains: it was in 1999-2000 in Lebanon. It has nothing to do with the ongoing war in Syria.

But I understand that Golan was always quiet when Bashar was in full control, what makes you to be sure that it stays that way if rebels take control?

The Golan was quiet, but Lebanese border wasn't, because Assad's aid to Hezbullah. When Assad will fall, Hezbullah will eventually collapse.

The Golan isn't going to remain quiet as it was, but Lebanese border will become more quiet than it is now.

Besides, Assad and Hezbullah are Iran's proxies. At the moment Iran concerns Israel more than Anti-Bashar forces.

Ah, and don't forget that sneaky skinny Assad was secretly constructing a nuclear reactor until Israel destroyed it in 2007.
