Syria fails to provide details of Indian 'jihadis'.

Indian intelligence seeking details of Indian nationals involved in the Syrian war as claimed by Syrian ambassador to India, Riad Abbas, has failed to evoke any response. Abbas had gone on record saying that pan-Islamic jihadists from India were fighting the Assad regime.

B]Although Indian intelligence confirmed that they did not know of any Indian jihadists in Syria, they were checking out the remote possibility of an Indian national, based in Middle-east, getting involved in fight for Damascus.[/B]

Taking serious umbrage to ambassador Abbas' statement, South Block said that there have been two cases of British nationals of Indian origin involved in the Syrian war.

The first one relates to Dr Shah Abbas Khan, a British doctor of Indian origin, who entered Syria illegally through Turkey and is currently under the detention of Syrian authorities.

"Abbas' statement is most irresponsible and mischievous as we have checked our records and found no Indian national involved in jihad in Syria. We are cross-checking facts before we formally take up the matter with Syrian ambassador," said a senior official.

Sources said that it was the mother of Dr Abbas Khan who had been calling up various authorities including the Indian government. It is in this context, officials say, that she may have contacted the local Syrian embassy in New Delhi.

However, as Dr Abbas Khan is not an Indian national, New Delhi left it on London to take the matter up with Assad regime.

The other case pertains to Dr Isa Abdur Rahman, another British doctor of Indian origin, who travelled to rebel held area in northern Syria and was killed in May this year. Again, the matter is for London to take up as Dr Rahman held a British passport.

Abbas's statement came at a time when Salafi strain of Islam is desperately trying to make inroads into India.

. . . .
If there is no Indian jihadis , then good news .

If there indeed are , the Syrian military should just kill them .

Problem solved .

Or ship them back to where they came from to put them on trial, don't you think it's a viable option?

Oh hell no! We have enough on our plate, shipping them back would be a disaster. And how would we try them, under which law? They are waging war against our state- the legal modality and lack of any concrete evidence (how will the Syrian govt. provide proof beyond reasonable doubt) will see them escape justice. IF there are some crazy people in engaged in this sort of stuff then its best for us they never return- which is more likely if they end up dead.

First of all, I don't believe anything Assad says. Anyway, let's suppose the story is true, shipping them back to India will help your secuirty establishment a lot in counter terror, finding out how recruited them, do they operate in a sleeper cell or not? and so on.

Yaara field interrogations may be better but then who's going to do that, not Assad- he can't be trusted- that's a no-brainer.

So IF they exist and IF they are shipped back then we shall have to detain them without a trial, that could get very messy with the pesky human rights orgs. :frown:

how would we charge them? where will the evidence come from? just accusation from syrian govt wont be admissible in Indian court.

Assad's secret servives are the worst of all  and his regime is the biggest liar of all time.

Yes, you do have to detain them & interrogate them & and set them on trails. This is a point on principle not for fun, the Human Rights Orgs need to back the F off.

Why did you jump into setting them on trials without interogatingin them first place? Those individuals must be associated with indignous radical elements with India, or via an international terror group.

well.. quite often as you see in case of doctors from UK, these guys have no criminal record. They just went and faught what they thought is right. Lots such fighters have clean slate back home.
Same happened in libya too.
