SUPARCO is in the process of Launching the First ever National Satellite Student Program to help promote research in space sciences in the country.

SUPARCO spokesman Mr Hassan said this while talking exclusively to our Lahore Representative Shahzad Farooqi today.

He said that under this project University students will work in coordination with SUPARCO experts to launch their satellites in the space.

He said that Pakistan launches satellites from China and Kazakhstan and some other countries.





Radio Pakistan- The program will help promote research in space sciences in the country.



Icube-1 To be launched in November:


After a delay of one year IA, ICUBE-1 is expected to be launched in November 2013 along with 24 other satellites form Yasny launch base, Russia. Exact launch date will be announced soon.



A new, ICUBE-2 Project is to be initiated. Details are to be announced.

Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS-1) Being Pushed Back to 2016 due to funding Crisis:


Towards late 1990s, SUPARCO planned an Earth Observation Satellite System (EOSS), which by 2006/7 was reconfigured and renamed as Remote Sensing Satellite System (RSSS), comprising of two remote sensing satellites, one carrying an electro-optical payload and the other a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR).

The PRSS-1 project is currently under the process of approval from the Government of Pakistan. The planned satellite will carry a high-resolution electro-optical payload with designed service life of 05 years. The satellite is envisaged to be designed, developed and launched in a low Earth orbit by 2015/16, through cooperation/ collaboration with reputed international satellite manufacturers.

i was wondering whether the SLV program is still active or calcelled?because without our own SLV/PSLV we wont concentrate on indigenous satellite ever.we need to launch atleast 2-3 satellite each year like iran

There is no money for a serious SLV development program. In theory a Shaheen derived vehicle could lift 50 - 100 kg into LEO but for either remote sensing satellite (>400 - 800 kg into LEO) or communications satellite (2.7 tons in GTO) it would be useless.

Even the PRSS is being funded by soft loans from China who will be building it.

SUPARCO should be given money to make facilities in 5 provinces of Pakistan to assemble and test satellites...

It's all about funds. The more funds a nation allocates to a space agency, the more successful it is. SUPARCO's budget for 2013-2014 is just over $7 million... communications satellites alone cost hundreds of millions of dollars each.

Pakistan isn't going anywhere any time soon with only a $7 million budget for the national space agency.

We had a joint project with pakistan ... pakistani first & second stage (Shaheen II) / Iranian upper stage with injection system & fairing ...

but cancelled ... lack of found !

ICUBE-1 Launch date 21st November 2013 - Russia.

Susat-1 - Program has 'officially' been launched on OCT-7 as “National Student Satellite Programme (PNSSP)” but further details are found here SUPARCO-Universities Interaction (Student Projects) This project is probably in the research stage, don't think development has started.

ICUBE-2 Is in the pre-proposal stage (very early)

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid, stressing the importance of space technologies, has underscored the need for exploiting the same by developing applications for socio-economic development of the country and national defense.



He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Pakistan’s first “National Student Satellite Programme (PNSSP)” at the Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) here on Monday. Zahid Hamid said space technologies were already having a tremendous impact on our lives and influencing the way we approached and managed our routine work. He said that while we are late in harnessing the benefits of space technology applications, SUPARCO had in the last decade or so, made concerted efforts to develop space technologies and was making efforts to introduce these at the national level, including public and private sectors, as well as schools, colleges and universities. Talking about the PNSSP, he said SUPARCO through this initiative had envisioned a long-term program to involve, train and prepare university students for the high-tech space industry.



The federal minister while explaining incumbent government’s emphasis on space technology said that, immediately after the government was formed, the project for Pakistan’s Remote Sensing Satellite was approved, which would be deployed by early 2017. Speaking on the occasion, SUPARCO chairman Maj General (r) Ahmed Bilal said the PNSSP was being launched with an idea to uplift the overall level of universities/institutes in the domain of space technology through series of student satellites. “In a nutshell, PNSS program will benefit the education sector as well as space industry of Pakistan. It is a project that drives all of us to work together to boost socio economic development of Pakistan”, he added



He said student satellite was the emerging dimension of space research at the moment which served many purposes including low-cost design, technology and component validation, and most importantly human resource development at national level. About the PNSSP, Maj General (r) Ahmed Bilal said the PNSSP would be implemented through collaboration between SUPARCO and selected universities nationwide, adding that initially 25 universities/institutes having already established programs in Engineering, Information Technology and Basic Sciences were selected, based on the ranking released by the HEC.

Some students created a vision for Pakistan's Space Program. Completely lacks any detail how this is all going to be funded. In order for Pakistan to be successful it needs to spend $1 billion a year for 15 years to make any sort of impact and build real capacity.
