We have or will have 66 Hawk trainers. so that page is off by atleast 40 aircraft. Many Jaguars are also on order. and 6 C-130s will be coming in another year or so.

It should be atleast 140 LCA and may be a squadron of PAK-FA.

Those nos above only number 480 planes which will give IAF barely 28 SQUADRONS..

The MIG21 bison upgrade of 125 PLANES WAS COMPLETED in 2007.

The idea was to upgrade these very old MIG2s to run until 2017..

They will be replace by LCA tejas from 2012 onwards/

By 2020 THESE MIG21s will have cracked up has they will be so old..ie 50 years old...

JAGS & MIG27 can last longer has they are newer airframes..

IAF will never have 800 combat planes

640 max

220 su30 mki (80-90 already in service)
126 mrca (starting 2011-2012)
100 TEJAS LCA (BEGINNING 2012)

440 FRONT LINE

51 mirage 2000 (upgraded to dash 5 by 2012)
63 mig29 (upgraded to SMT by 2011)

Iceman if MIG21s were upgraded in 2007 mean IAF won't trash them in 3-5 years would they??? comeon man that's just too stupid of an Air Force to do man...Sorry man but its the reality u guys are going to drag MIG 21s for the next 10-11 years until u sort out problems with lca. Again Jags and MIG 27s upgrade is meant to drag them to 2020 at the most...No air Force is stupid to upgrade a fleet just for 3-5 years..wasting precious $$$..
India has 59 Mirage 2000 will be in inventory i believe atleast till 2020.
India has 69 Mig 29s i don't know if a couple of them crashed lets just take it as 69..all will be upgraded to SMT as well India has ordered 16 Mig 29s for the upcoming New Aircraft carrier.
Calculate ur Front Liners and Second liners...Still IAF is in trouble...Old junkies will still remain in large quantity till 2020 I believe so..

so you can add 126 MMRCA to this and at one squadron of FGFA or at least twin seat versions of the PAK-FA.

The mig21 BISON UPGRADE programme started in 2003

Finished in 2007.

The programme was to extend the potential life time span of this very old vintage plane to run from 1970 to 2020 max

FAR OLDER THEN PAFS F7 fleet which is the same plane from china but only arrived 10 years ago.

LOOK AT MY EARLIER POST I actually think IAF will shrink to a mere 620 fighters max

350 SU30MKI/MRCA (RAFAEL/F18SH)
100 LCA TEJASMK1 & 2
100 MIG29SMT & MIRAGE2000-5
70 JAGUAR

126mrca order will replace all 130 + mig27 & few reamaining mig23 about 16

120LCA will replace mig21 BISON (TEJAS HAS BEEN BUILT TO REPLACE BISON)

170 MIG29 & MIRAGES/JAGS will remain until PAKFA comes around 2025

Can anyone please tell me how many su 30 aircrafts are currently active in the IAF. cos i hav searched a lot regarding this but everywhere i get diff numbers. i n wikipedia it says 110 as of now. but in this forum alone i can see 2 diff numbers ie 80 and 100. Does anyone have any official numbers from an official source. Also the mig 29s and the mirages which are curently active. can anyone also tell me whthr the trainer aircrafts are capable of combat ?

There are 5 OPERATIONAL su30mki Squadrons. Typical IAF squadron is 18 planes.

The indians are licence building between 10 to 13 planes a Year.

40 more are to arrive direct from Russia in a seperate order by 2010 (with 20 this year alone. )
