Stop violence against Christians in Karnataka

How is it mandated discrimination of minorities when 90% of the victims of the Blasphemy Law have been Muslims?

Thats the funny part though.

For Muslims as a whole Hindus,Sikhs, christians and Ahmadis are minorities..for Sunni the Shia are heretic, for the Deobandi the Barelvi is a heretic, for all of them the Sufi is a blasphemer...

Whether they are legally permitted or not doesn't make a difference. Because even when it isn't legally permitted in India, the Indian state has killed thousands of Sikhs & Muslims, & never held anyone accountable for it. The matter is not whether this is state-permitted or not, but how widespread extremism is throughout India.

Happy flame baiting.

I say what I say - you do not know more about the situation than a Catholic from Mangalore..So move on..better anti-India threads are waiting for bilal to grace them ;)

No flame baiting from me, I'm just asking you, who was held accountable from the Indian government when 50,000 Sikhs were killed in India?

LOL You dont even know what you are speakin about..and this line is proof enough for that.

Oh you have still not shut up..?

Gimme a break.

We Indians can sort the issue ourselves...fault is on both sides and we both know that..no need for Neo-Nazis to lecture us.

Also when your ancestors were on their fours eating raw meat and living in caves ours were writing treatises on astronomy, surgery and metallurgy living in palaces..so even if we backtrack you guys still have a lot of catching up to do ;)

p.s:- If actions of a fringe group who only retaliate is the action of an average Hindu, then those neo-Nazis are typical Canadians..After all they are only doing to Jews what your ancestors did to the native Indians...

Are you equating Canadians to dogs? It's ironic that someone speaking with a racist undertone and keen to silence people is lecturing about Neo Nazis. What culture were you raised? For a fringe group they sure have avid supporters here.

So they were persecuted and attacked for exercising their freedom of speech? Who are the extremists again?

Freedom of Speech in India is not absolute, it would be stupid to compare India with the U.S. or Canada. I would agree with an absolute freedom of speech provision but in a society like ours, it would be reckless & endanger a lot of innocent lives. You must remember that this is not a Hindu specific right, "Satanic Verses" was first banned in India (imo, unnecessarily) & many instances of provocative articles leading to prosecution can be found.

Nobody has died (to my knowledge) in Karnataka due to these extremist acts. Vandalism, however regretable, must not be compared to more extreme acts of violence.

As already stated by SM, Catholics have lived as an integral part of Mangalore since long. They are what makes up a large part of the Mangalore mosaic & got along well with the rest of Mangalore's population. A new breed of evangelical Christians are aggressively attemting proselytising & pushing forward their silly agenda.

I believe any & all proselytising should be banned; my own choice would be to prosecute for cheating , anyone who says that their way gets you to heaven & make it incumbent for them to prove their case or desist from such claims.

Conversion must stop in India. Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists do not go around converting others. It is only Abrahamic religions like Christianity and Islam that convert others. Religious conversions must be banned by law in India. Proselytising, which has been the main function and activity of Christian and Muslim clergy for thousands of years must be legally banned in India and perpetrators thrown into jail.

PMukherjee bhai, I did not expect this post from you. Even if what you are saying is true, that Abrahamic religions convert people & non-Abrahamic don't, what is wrong about converting to a religion? People should be allowed to convert to whatever religion they want (not coerced or forced into it though), & free to live in whatever manner they want. That's how people live in a real, secular democracy.

Should India even be considered a real democracy if it's freedom of speech and religion are restricted, is it even a real democracy now?

Its really touching, your advocacy of the freedom to convert.

But is it allowed as per Islam? Why do you kill apostates then?

The Punishment for Apostasy from Islam

Undeniably, the traditional position of Muslim scholars and jurists has been that apostasy [riddah] is punishable by death.

Apostasy and Islam

And also interesting that you call them crusaders and kill them in your Islamic countries but in India you fake to be the supporters of missionaries!

That's how people live in a real, secular democracy.

Why don't you practice it in your Islamic countries before preaching to others?

It is not about the situation in Pak in particular..its how it has always been in the last 1400 years and I think Pak is no exception to it.

Just telling the truth...Feel free to prove me wrong...

There is no law in the Quran (or in Islam) against apostasy. Neither is there any punishment in Pakistan against apostasy. Let the Muslim "scholars" & "jurists" think whatever they want. People are free to convert to whatever religion they want. Period.

It's not what you claim that matters.

It's what Muslims practice that matters.

I don't think you know much about Islam, or its history.

More flame baiting ;)

You were the one that said the blasphemy law is legally mandated in Pakistan, & I just showed you that legal mandates means little when no one in the government is made accountable for their killing of thousands of minorities. So there's no flame baiting on my end.

It's not what you claim that matters.

It's what Muslims practice that matters.

It's not what I'm claiming, it's what Islamic sources & Islam is claiming.

Muslims can practice whatever they want, their actions do not equate to Islam. Just like Hitler killing millions of Jews does not equate to the actions of Christianity.

For others, Islam is what Muslims do. Especially if they do it in the name of Islam.

Hitler did his deeds in the name of Germany and soiled it's name.

There has never been another way.

I blame the day light saving time!

Should India even be considered a real democracy if it's freedom of speech and religion are restricted, is it even a real democracy now?

Freedom of speech is never absolute; the demarcations of the boundary drawn are different in different cultures. If freedom of speech were absolute, hate speech would not be an offense which it is in many countries. One must try & understand the contexts that restrictions placed operate in. The interpretation of the law applies fairly for all, not just for a single segment of society. Christians routinely oppose & protest books & movies in India. Would that not make them hypocrites if they apply one standard to their religion & one to others? Very few Christians in India make your argument.

My own opinion on religion is that there must be enormous restrictions placed on ridiculous superstitions. Freedom of belief does not mean that school children can be taught theories of a flat earth or that the earth is only a few thousand years old; the same logic must apply to idiotic claims of being the only gateway to "heaven" or indeed of any gateway.

As for your point on whether India should be considered a real democracy, I leave you to form your own opinion. You would not be wrong no matter whether your opinion leans towards a 'Yes' or a 'No'. We will go by our own opinion which is that it is, even if not a perfect one.
