What's new

Stealth ASW Corvette INS Kiltan launched in Kolkata :D

But don't forget the IN stealth ships to date have been far larger and far larger (Visby is <700 tonnes, P-28A is >3,000 tonnes and the P-17 are >6,000 tonnes) and far more potent than these "full-stealth" ships.

But size doesn't limit stealth features, look at the main gun for example! The Visby class uses a foldable gun to reduce the RCS, similarly all main sensors and antennas are build into the mast. The more you integrate weapons and sensors into the design itself, the more you can reduce the RCS.

As such the P-17A will be far more stealthy with an integrated sensor mast that is far less cluttered and with a flush deck aswell as incorporating plenty of other stealth features.

Indeed, the Kolkata class for example looks very promising by design, just like the P17A concepts we saw so far:

What I don't like though, are the RBU 6000 rockets, hardly covered or shapped.

I agree the RBU-6000s are an issue.

wrt the future of the IN and stealth design, they've got some ambitious plans:

0.07- concealed main gun!

You're right but the fact the IN is relatively new at this "stealth" angle of ship design it will take a while to get there. But already the designs of P-15A and beyond (P-17A,P-15B etc) all look very promising.

Chinese submarines in IOR, are you sure brother? i mean won't that kick off a big diplomatic row

What I mean dude, that island close to SCS. In the crisis situation, we have to face nuke sub and not conventional. The advantage with nuke sub is that they can remain immerse under water for longer time and can yet do some 30 knots. So it's not only difficult to track them but their speed is also more than P-28 corvette.
Though India has advantage if PLAN warships try to enter Indian ocean region through that famous narrow lane that connects India with ASEAN nations.

Your observations are correct for an n-sub, but i don't see a conflict in SCS with IN involved. China knows well that any submarine adventure in the region (even though disputed) will isolate it diplomatically. further with P 8I joining IN, detetection of submarines should not be a big issue and it is in this context that a naval base in Andman islands could be vital for India strategically.

Yes, 12 P 8I fleet by next 5 year will provide major boost to IN in their ASW capabilities.

Seeing how little progress are being made of the two corvettes of the same class launched earlier, this one isn't gonna be inducted before 2018.

The first ship always takes longer till it gets ready. This one will be ready in 2014.
