Its possible that a unified Korea will remain allied with China, because unlike Japan they have a land border with China. But it is also possible that they will choose the Japanese path of seeking balancing ties with the military alliance under discussion, in addition to their relationship with US/NATO to hedge their bet.
Hardware can always be recreated, just like Europe and Japan rose from ashes of WW II, the important thing in my opinion is to have a highly educated, developed and creative population in a stable and secure political structure. People and their know-how and creativity make hardware.
China's growth rate already slowed down. Every country has a growth rate curve that becomes more flat over time as the country becomes more developed. If the members of the military alliance can be managed well under Japanese leadership, then I think it is possible to achieve high growth rate and compete with China. With high economic growth will come more military capability.
So a few forum posts and blog proves what? When the UK is displaying fireworks all over enemy territories, they sure don't seem like a vessel. When they are a security council member, why would he be a vessel. UK is still a great power, as demonstrated by their military Queen victoria, and Typhoon, these projects even Japan would have trouble with, and they did.
I know Korean history very well, but unlike a Western vessel, things are changing, old rules no longer fit today. especialy if your nation is a developed one.
A US B-2 bomber replacement cost 60 billions more or less, and may end up costing 80 if past is any indication. How many nation, developed or not can afford this. China spends 36 billion and counting every year just adding new equipment to the troops, how many more can match?
China has very expensive programs in every sector at the same time, Y-20, J-20,31, missile programs, Z-20, Space programs, new APCs, Tank improvements, engines, Type 55, air craft carriers, attack and ballistic nuclear subs, more advanced AIP subs, future soldier programs, ZH-05 and many more.
How many nations can afford any one of that? Tank, maybe, APCs, maybe, future soldier, they might equip some elities, but hardly all of them.
You are not asking to recreate, you are asking them to be world leaders, you are under the assumption that these things can be done, and they can't. It's not a accident, that the 16 trillion dollar economy is doing these and more, while the 5 trillion is not.
So yea, we slowed down, but it's still far faster than almost every nation. Japan's 2013 data doesn't suggest good things, maybe better this year? Who knows, but the difference won't be huge, especially taking into account inflation, if there's growth at all. But Japan is already developed so it's not that important any ways.
But even if you do have good growth, there's still only two nation on earth that can afford to keep moving their military forward.
Its time for war. We are going to supply your war effort with reasonable ( to me ) price.
