Sri Lankan President's relative attacked in India: Breaking news

Thirukumaran Nadesan, husband of Deputy Minister Nirupama Rajapaksa, speaking to Ada Derana refuted Indian media reports which claimed he was attacked by a group of activists. However, he stated that he was mobbed by a group of pro-LTTE activists in Rameswaram, India today.

Mr. Nadesan added that he was surrounded by the activists who demonstrated shouting slogans against the Sri Lankan government.

Earlier today Indian media reported that Nadesan was attacked by activists of the Vaiko-led MDMK and Nam Tamilar Iyakkam, led by Seeman, when he was coming out of the house of the Ramanathaswamy Temple priest, after performing ‘pooja’.

Indian media alleged that the activists, who thought the pooja was being done for the good of the Sri Lankan government, had broken the gate and door of the house and had hurled stones and slippers.

Nirupama Rajapaksa, Deputy Minister of Water Supply and Drainage, is the niece of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The title of this thread is misleading. He was not thrashed by 'A' as was being alleged but was mobbed by 'B'. It is not clear how the story of thrashing by 'A' came to be floated to be picked up by the media. There appears to be a connection between 'A' and 'B'. As a guest of India and relative of the head of state of a neighbouring country, it is sad that the gentleman in question faced inconvenience while in India. The state governments and police departments should make an effort to ensure that guests in our nation are looked after appropriately. Only then can we expect similar care to be taken of Indians visiting other countries.

Hey, who told you that people aren't allowed to get mobbed in democracies? Dolly Parton gets mobbed even today. So do Monica Lewensky and Meg Ryan. Mobbing is perfectly democratic way of exhibiting affection. Yes, people suffering from claustrophobia should avoid it.
