Sri Lankan Politico-Economical Crisis 2022

.
We have real historians who have documented Ashoka's life and rule. A youtube cartoon video is nothing noteworthy.
Okay so I want to side with you but I cannot. This is actually quite well researched and I think this is the point of view where there is some consensus on today (among credible historians)

Edit: I was curious to see the sources. The YouTube video lists all of them. Sanjeev Sanyal, Romila Thapar, Ananda Guruge, MH Syed, Ven Dhammika and Charles Allen.

Well, ALL those who are living right now must have had some ancesstors 2300 years back, right? So whats so "fairytale" about it? Its not as if we pop'ed out of no where on this planet.
What were your ancestors doing 2300 years ago?

Every country who invest in developing country think of bribe, local sensitivities, and risk of no return.
China model is economic model. It does trade with the US and also took US debt in the form of treasuary bonds. Similarly, China invest in Australia. It is just that tarde brings some corruption along with it bcz some locals or some chinese want to take advantage of it.

Like in Pakistan. Chinese power companies made very one sided contracts. First, bcz no one wanted to invest in Pak so, Pak govt gave them very lucarative profit to come here. Second, our politicians wanted kickbacks so they signed those deals. Chinese govt even apprehendid Chinese national in one project bcz that company earned enormous profit. It was Pak govt which gave NOC to release him.
Not just Pak... We see it across most of Africa where these companies not just Chinese but even westerns have taken huge profits but being in cahoots with the politicians.

Many projects are just white elephants e..g. how can you built two ports just side by side - go figure that one out. Railways which go nowhere.

There needs to be good governance to make sure noone takes advantage - one major complaints i heard was contracts and other agreements were in mandarin and most signatories did not know what was being signed until a few countries started to get their own linguists.

Its a sporadic bout of violence, compare this to the TLP shitshow we had last year. It will probably get under control soon, I still fail to see how that's akin to a humanitarian disaster that needs the assistance of a even more failing economy like Pakistan. I hope to god it doesn't come to that point (which it wont)

Currency devaluation isn't akin to a humanitarian disaster that needs international assistance. It isn't a mass famine, Pakistan is also suffering from inflation but are we suffering from a humanitarian crisis?

Imran Khan also admitted and virtually declared bankruptcy, you act as if the average citizen in that country is starving to death on the street and the country is undergoing an Afghanistan tier famine. The poverty rate over there is like 3% or something
1) Due to a lack of foreign reserves, Sri Lanka is unable to import wheat, rice, and essential foods, and the price of wheat has risen by 100% from 100 rupees to around 200 rupees, with people still unable to find it.

2) The lack of foreign reserves also means that Sri Lanka imports gas from other countries and can no longer afford to buy it, causing the industry to shut down and people to lose their jobs.

3) The situation has deteriorated to the point where crowds are attacking police and politicians, prompting the government to declare a state of emergency and deploy the army to the streets.

4) The mobs are targeting lawmakers, with at least one MNA dead thus far. Other politicians have fled and are hiding. At least 41 politicians homes have been burned to the ground, and the majority of government officials have been compelled to quit. The situation is so bad that 1 politician had no choice but to open fire on the mob to save his life, and some civilians were also killed.

5) Take a look at the photos of Sri Lanka, where there are torched buses on the road, injured citizens, and people beating up on police officers wherever they can.

It is not as simple as you believe... you were saying that I do not know what I am talking about but I think you are unaware of the situation in Sri Lanka.

The bottom line is, we have limited capacity and right now Sri Lanka is unable to buy essential items and all I said is we should help them with essential items and I see nothing wrong on it. If we can send trucks/aid to Afghanistan... why not send couple of them to Sri Lanka

Peace - bye for now

Could Pakistan end up like this if elections are not held or does this awam not have it in them? Pti supporters are a crazy bunch anything can happen.
You must be part of the privileged elite, enjoying the status quo and not subject to the daily struggles and humiliation endured by an average Pakistani...

You must believe Pakistan is overrun with milk and honey and only the crazy PTI supporters are suffering...

I had hope for Sri Lanka as they seemed to be doing better than the rest of S Asia but now they are screwed big time.

Some African countries might be able to pay off the loans using natural resources. Sri Lanka has no such natural resource.

The only way forward for them I see is leasing out the infrastructure they built using borrowed money.

The short term solution is getting one loan to pay off another.
