What's new

Sri Lanka starts taxi service with Tata Nano

Nahh mate, saw plenty of Isuzus and the like.

You guys have a love affair with the Prius though.

Yeah but Leyland(Ashok Leyland Ind) and the likes of Bajaj,Hero honda holds 50% of vehicle imports here

More than the love it's the affordability mate..Lolz..The govt chrages less tax for hybrids to encourage environment friendly transport.. Thats another reason why diesel suv's and jeeps are taxed 300%..It's pretty absurd for the amount we pay to buy a Japanese family car here, You can buy a c class mercedes or a 3 series beemer else where

I think it has been a considerable success in the island.. Heard there were certain mechanical defects but i guess it's a work inprogress.. Would work well in Indian overcrowded metros
Believe me bro.

I have done my research. Cost estimation, benefits, customer comforts, financing, and why Government will also boost it.

Did this in August 2011. For research on Competition between Auto-Rickshaw and Nano for public transport. A mathematical model.

Just look at size these AutoRickshaws. Also people will pay more rps if they have option like this.

Rest can't explain. If you know what I mean.

Bhai are you from Jaipur?? I went to Jaipur couple of weeks ago, yaar kitni gandi gaadi chalate ho tum log :P, Jaipur is prob the hardest place to drive in India.

Yup. Actually driving behavior of people from certain section of cities are different.

So it depends which part.

Jaipurites follow traffic rules.

Mate, Indian automobile companies don't hold 95% of the market even within India itself.

Why all the hostility, all you Lankans? On a recent visit to SL to visit my friend from High School, I saw very few (if any) Indian passenger vehicles. Most Indian vehicles are restricted to the commercial segments, (inclusive of the Nano etc).

Means those who manufactures in India it includes maruti suzuki, hundai, toyota, ford etc. etc.

I was talking about India's export (or manufactured from India automobiles) to Sri Lankan Market.

Indian vehicles in Sri Lanka are mainly 3 wheelers and commercial vehicles.don`t post rubbish..no one who has been to SL would believe your nonsence

Don't talk if you have no knowledge what you are talking about.

I know about 2 and 3 wheelers a single Indian company like Bajaj exports 10,000 motorcycles and 12,000 three-wheelers to Sri Lanka every month.

Proof:
Bajaj to export less vehicles to Sri Lanka as import duty rises - Livemint

But in this thread we are talking about automobiles specially Made in India cars.

Maruti most preferred imported car in Sri Lanka

Also i was referring to the post of Lankan Ranger where he was claming that Sri Lanka imports 2000 second hand Japanese car each month.

But, in reality a single company (Maruti Suzuki) from India exported 15,359 cars to Sri Lanka last year.

Proof:

Algeria is Maruti Suzuki's largest export market - Auto Industry News

Now, just add the export from Maruti suzuki, Hyundai India, Tata, Mahindra, Ford India, Toyota India, BMW India and you will get the complete picture.

Dude your're still talking about something you dont have any idea about... So stop blabbering bull crap.. Anybody else who even would have a iota of the real knowledge will laugh at you.. The Indian vehocle market in the island only contains those Indian brands manufactured in India.. Toyota,Nissan and other Japanese vehicles are either directly imported from Japan or Malaysia.. SL does not import Indian manufactured Japanese,Korean or European vehicles.. But it is a transshipment hub to Africa..The models here are all Japanese models not the models thats manufactured in the Indian operations.. Suzuki Maruti and Suzuki are completely different imports.. Except for the swift all the other ranges that includs the vitara and the Japanese model sedan is imported directly from Japan.. The only other models thats shipped from India are small Chevrolet cars and the fords.. That have minute share of overall passenger vecle market... The recent presumed threats of incleasing tariffs on Indian vehicles sent shockwaves through the Indian 2 and 3 wheeler exporters amply prove this

So yet again pls keep you make belief comments to yourself.. Any non Lankan that have visited the country will readily debunk your wild claims tbh

Don't post BS or cpc propaganda we are not living in disconnected world just goggle it and you know the truth.

Indian automobile companies holds 95% of the auto market in the island nation.:D

India's automobile export to Sri Lanka = US$ $800 million each year.
:woot:

You haven't visited Sri Lanka yet right? Ask from Indian member on PDF who visited Sri Lanka or go to youtube and check "sri lanka roads" related videos to get an idea about your "95%" claim. :P

Same in Bangladesh.

Although I have to admit, the Nano looks very cute :D I Look forward to test drive one.

Must warn you. Basic model is not so easy to drive (I am not a good driver, but that is wot i felt :undecided: )

Talked to few Auto-Rickshaw wners in Jaipur, India. Told him about this idea about 2 years ago. They are ready to take it, all it needs is working model.

Thanks to Sri Lanka, we will have a test case and a study to make.

Question to Sri Lanka members, how many of those nano taxi cabs are still on the road?
