Sri Lanka snubs India, opens port to Chinese submarine again

we indians need to revise our foreign policy. We do not have good relations with our neighbors, why?

..........because we are too soft. It is better to be feared than liked. Speak softly and carry a BIG stick.

We speak softly but forget to carry the stick.

I don't think India's ability to support Sri Lanka is limited... they have wilfully chosen not to support Sri Lanka on numerous occasions eg at the United Nations, where they voted with the US against Sri Lanka not once, but twice. It is nothing but Indian foreign policy failure that pushed Sri Lanka towards China. It all started with India refusing to sell offensive weapons to Sri Lanka in order to defeat the LTTE, which makes you wonder about their intentions. That is when the Chinese stepped in with their support, which has only grown to encompass political and economic support as well. The Indians did not want the LTTE defeated, what they wanted was for the LTTE to be contained in Sri Lanka, with a low intensity conflict that would keep the island within their tentacles.

What the Indian government wants of Sri Lanka is a client state that kow tows to them and that India can manipulate politically. They do not want an economically strong, independent Sri Lanka on their southern doorstep and have done what they can to stymie Sri Lanka's progress and independence. However, their backward and regressive foreign policy is backfiring... as can be seen here. Their government (and media) still does not want to hold up a mirror to their own face and take responsibility for their failures, instead they choose to adopt a knee-jerk response of screaming at Sri Lanka with arms flailing, and of course at their bette noire China. When they could have easily used the long standing cultural and historical ties between the two countries to cement a close and abiding friendship, the Indian government instead chose to distance themselves and backstab Sri Lanka on numerous occasions.

India did not support SL in the UN, but when time came India did not allow the UN war crime tribunal to investigate SL.

LTTE support was in response to SL attempts to offer a base to the US Navy back then.

So when the US is replaced by China today, India's reaction will still be the same and maybe a bit more serious. It can get a lot worse.

Oops very low standard Indian Media. acts like Emotional fools. :sarcastic::haha:

The fact is SL is a Sovereign Country which is thriving for Development. What I saw in that Media report is betraying India, India should show it's Muscle power etc. Actually these kind of jokes just gives us laugh. Sri Lankans generally are much more developed and educated. India is important only as it's our neighbor, that's all. we have no special place for India neither any special hate towards them. we see India as just another country. by seeing level of quality of Indian media, I just could not stop my laugh... :haha::haha::omghaha::omghaha:

China is investing $100 Billion in next 5 years in India. it is laughable when such country who are also getting helping hand from China complaining.

There's a huge hole in Indian foreign policy, mentality of self proclaiming as a big brother, and same thinking pattern eventually make it's neighbors to move away from India. SL keeping India at a distance, not as closest friend just as a neutral neighbor only.

As long as SL do not pose a threat to India, India is happy to see SL develop.

When India starts to see SL as a threat to its security, India will make all attempts to destroy SL. Is that so hard to understand ?

indian media is immature most of the times....just like other south asian media......

what is this channel? times now?

indians give a shit or this thread will not have 160 posts.

as for the admiral you are referring to, all the participants got to see the CIC the next day. The Chinese admiral did not demand to see the control center but just asked. Big mouth india media in collaboration with big mouth unprofessional indian navy personnel leaked the story to the press turning a simple request that turned it into a big news story.

Still we dont give a shit about PLAN.We want to know the real intention of SL thats all.
And what was the response of the Captain of INS Shivalik.?
If you are a guest in a foreign vessel then you shouldnt ask for such a thing especially an expereinced Admiral.
Till now we dont heard such an incident from any other foreign navies.
This is India ,Our Armed Forces is the ours, the People of India property. So we have every right to now what is happening there unless it damage our national secercy and security.
We know this is not the way in China .You guys dont know what is happening in your CCP.
But in India Govt is absolutely responsible for transperancy.

obviously India's support for SL is limited due to TN factor. India cannot openly support SL when there is a part of india that treats SL as an enemy. India cannot afford to let go TN and support SL without much reason.
India doesnt support SL, india lose a little. india doesnt support TN but india lose a lot because TN is a part of india that had seperatist tendencies. So we cannot point at india for not fully supporting us. Just because SL and India has cultural and historical ties both SL and india cannot ignore geo political reasons.
Even if indian centre wants to support SL they cant do that with a hostile TN.
We have to understand that for SL-Ind relations...

even if india voted against SL in UN, india abstained this year and does not support UN investigation in SL. So India has been friendly towards us and supported us.

India did have a policy of containing LTTE in SL with a low intensity war, but later on India did change and they supported us in diplomatic front.

Why are you shooting the messenger ?

I dont think you can call that a message.. A number of other media outlets both Indian and other have already made news about this in a appropriate manner

This is just a over analysis by some self proclaimed foreign relation experts crying wolf.. Surely hysterical

No one said otherwise. However it is irrelevant to the topic at hand.

That is irrelevant here. India govt. decisions are not made on media hype.

No it does'nt and thank goodness for that but you cant ignore blatant hysteria by media outlets either.. It's unethical.. Need to call a spade and thats not shooting the messenger

TN is a part of India so its voice is also a part of Indias voice. Its concerns are also Indias concern. But SL is also considered a friend. But when UN intervenes there is more at play than just TN.

Its the Big boys (US, Europe, maybe China) playing the game to pin down SL. Not India.

How sure are you that China did not stir the pot at UN and then come to rescue you like a knight in Shining armour ? in exchange for berth for their Naval ships and submarines ? .... International power play is a lot more complex and dangerous. SL is not large enough or powerful enough to play it. Which is why it should not play it.

The repercussions are VERY VERY serious too. You don't believe me, look at pakistan.

You have nice theories...but we have representatives in UN and they very well know who is playing the game to pin down SL and my friends, that is not china. (not even india)
China has invested in SL so any instability in SL is disadvantageous to them. China is not a devil as west wants to make them look like.

SL doesnt want to get in the middle of international power play. Our ppl just want to mind their own business and look for prosperity, stability and peace. It is rather some western elements want to drag SL into these issues.

So when west tries to bully us we need an asian giant. when india cannot fill that space we have to seek support of chinese

SL is not playing any International politics but it does what's in best interest for her.. It has a non aligned foreign policy.. And it's focus is on economic growth and prosperity for it's citizens not world domination or be any part of it.. They know they cant archive those without a stable neighborhood, so why would SL antagonize any of it's neighbors or friends.. It's the prerogative of India, China or for that matter anybody else to make the ties better, Not Lanka's.. As for this particular issues goes, Tomorrow if India wanted to dock one of it's submarines in Colombo.. I dont see anybody should have an issue with it.. If SL doesn't.. So i dont see the reason for this condescending attitude of some Indian so called analysis and media over another friendly nation of Lanka's using it's ports for routine visits

SL policy is it;s open for anybody that comes in good faith and respects it's sovereignty.. Sovereignty of a nation does not depend on the size of it's landmass.. And people need to realize that
