Sri Lanka on Alert, On Indian Request
Sri Lanka is in touch with the Indian authorities over claims by a Lakshar-e-Taiba terror suspect that he was trained in Colombo to carry out terrorist attacks on Indian soil, External Affairs Ministry sources told Daily Mirror online.
The Defence Attache at the Sri Lankan High Commission in New Delhi is already in discussions with the Indian Defence Authorities and a comprehensive report over the issue has been sought by the External Affairs Ministry in Colombo.
We have informed our mission in New Delhi to investigate this matter immediately. Our Defence Attache at the Embassy is already in discussions with the Defence Authorities in India over the claims and we have also sought for a detailed report, sources at the Ministry said.
The key accused in the Pune German Bakery blast in India has made a startling revelation to his interrogators that the tourist destination of Colombo is a training hub of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET), the Asian Age reported.
Mirza Himayat Baig, 29, the conspirator and co-planter of the bomb placed at Punes German Bakery, has confirmed he received his terror training in Colombo.
The Indian police is now getting details from Baig of where in Colombo the training camp was held.
Lashkar-e-Taiba is said to be linked with the Al Qaeda and is banned as a terrorist organization by India, Pakistan, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Russia and Australia.
