Sonny Bill Williams: Rugby star latest to criticise China over Uighurs

One of the world's best-known rugby players has become the latest sports star to criticise China for its treatment of the Muslim Uighur population.

In a Twitter post, Sonny Bill Williams also criticised others for choosing "economic benefits over humanity".

Williams, a Muslim convert from New Zealand, posted an image showing a hand painted with the Chinese flag twisting an arm painted with the flag of East Turkestan - the term used by separatists to refer to Xinjiang. The East Turkestan arm is dripping with blood.

Williams, who recently signed for rugby league side Toronto Wolfpack, has achieved huge success in both codes of the game - league and union. He also had a short but successful career in professional boxing.

His statement echoes comments made by Arsenal footballer Ozil who criticised both China - and people who stayed silent.

After Ozil's comments, UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov's Instagram account included a post about the history of Uighurs - but the post seems to have been taken down. More than 20 countries, including Britain, signed a letter earlier in July condemning China's repression of Uighur Muslims.

And if you listen to the whole context, you can see he is rebutting what the interviewer said immediately, which she said "So you think they are not true?" If he believe those are not concentration camp, he would not be defensive with that notion, on the surface, it told us he have doubt, that's why he said he need to fact check whether or not those are concentration camp instead of outright denying those are concentration camp.

Of course he doesn't have to say 100% lies, politicians always leave some room when making comments, but we'll all can get his point. The west will seize every opportunities of showing the whole world empty villages and communities, with stories of genocide and torture -- but so far, they have none of it.

It is self evidence that the facilities are more similar to short term boarding schools. More radical elements of society are selected as students. These students are taught essential skills, laws, impotance of secularism and tolerance, meanwhile recieving salary.

And they graduated as law abiding, peace loving citizens, which the west abhors.

One thing is for sure, Uighurs in China enjoy best quality of life in the whole central and south Asia, they are lucky to be Chinese and being taken care by a wealthy and responsible government.

It's very simple, if he wanted to defend China, he would have said "YES" when the journo ask him whether he think the news is not true. Any kind of answer other than a straight yes would mean uncertainty. It's not about "leaving room" when making comment, but rather he said that because he is unsure, not a yes, not a no, but is unsure.

Also, your previous argument are flawed as well, if we don't know what he think, how do you know he knows more than you and me? How do you know he know that is not true?

Not one Vietnamese I know care about Uighur issue, I don't think you are what you said you are.

But well. Honestly, I don't really care as well, it can be concentration camp, it could be a Holiday Inn, it don't bother me much, those aren't my people.
