Hey guys , i recently started smoking to come up with exam stress .Around a week ago , i learnt how to take the smoke inside the lungs. But after a minute or two of smoking ,i feel light and dizzy as ****.It's an amazing feeling , yet after that , i can't concentrate on anything for the next 15- 20 minutes. Is that normal? I have seen many people smoke and none of them appear to be dizzy after smoking. I'm afraid i might be doing something wrong and harming myself a lot. I mean , cigarettes obviously harm you but i feel i might be taking in more smoke than usual or something like that. So , is this the normal feeling that you get , cause it makes you dizzy , but does nothing that would make me cope up with stress

As a smoker I can tell you if you do not smoke for at least 2-3 hours prior to your studies, your focus will increase enough for you to easily notice the difference in results.

You want to concentrate for long period of time - do not smoke (because you are new at it).

Your dizziness is strange to you because you are new at it. Once you become habitual, you will feel more relaxed about it. Your lungs and your brain are trying to cope with this new feeling. I do not know how you developed a liking to this dizziness, because it was never enjoyable for me when I started smoking. That is why the first time I inhaled, and I felt dizzy, I did not smoke for a whole year.

Took me intermittent smoking through entire 3 years to eventually succumb to the addiction, which I quit for 1 full year, and then 2 whole years even after getting addicted. Its charms are highly overrated, and it is merely the addiction of extreme level that keeps you going about it.

Anyway, about your problem - this smoking will be very detrimental to your studies, simply because you are new at it. Put it away while you are preparing for exams. After that you can enjoy all you want.

I wouldn't say this if you were habitual smoker, because then smoking could actually enhance your focus.

And yes, it will help you cope with stress and nervousness once you are casual about it. But you are in a phase where the addiction has not seeped in, which is why you cannot focus.

If you are to take my advice - start doing long runs every morning. It will help your lungs, and your brain, both to cope with the harmful effects of smoking. It will even help you reduce the degree of addiction that tempts you to smoke more.

All that if you cannot quit smoking.

P.S. I have been smoking for 6-7 years now (quit for 3 years in between too), and still I barely smoke more than a single bundle of beedies a day - the running helped me keep it low.

it always happens when you start smoking but after few days you develop tolerance because this effect is due increase nicotine in blood that causes these effects ........................ but i advice to you quit smoking because its start but after sometime you will be addicted to it then it will be very difficult for you quit

Don't worry, that's normal. Just lie down for a bit after you smoke and you'll eventually get used to it. This might sound strange but burping and farting helped when I started.

Doesn't take long to get used to it though, so stick with it. :)

don't smoke just stay away from this bloody thing .you will never forget these days after you smoke 1 year you try again and again but can't quit .its best time to avoid from smoking as you are new dear . i quit it after smoking 3 years .

Yes Sir , i respect what you said. But this is the hardest year at university for me , many days , i have to pull all nighters to finish all the work. Many times , i get worried if i feel i won't be able to finish an assignment by deadline. Then i heard that smoking relieves stress and calms you down, so i started smoking. Hard it may be , but i promise to quit smoking when i'm done with this year. Net year is chilled out as compared to this one , and i won't have any need for smoking. The only reason i started smoking was to improve grades and tackle nervousness and stress.

Yes, I find it helps calm you down while studying/working but no matter what you say to yourself, you will get addicted and it will be very hard to quit.
