PL fiasco: Modi suspended as IPL chief, Amin takes over
S. Chowdhary - 26 Apr 2010
IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi was suspended by the BCCI chief Shashank Manohar, late night on Sunday. He will be replaced by Chirayu Amin as the interim chairman of the IPL Governing Council.
The decision was announced immediately after the final of the IPL got over at the Dr. DY Patil in Navi Mumbai, around 10 hours before the IPL Governing Council was to meet at the BCCI office to discuss the future of the committee.
There were serious allegations against Lalit Modi of match-fixing, money laundering, nepotism in awarding bids to team owners amongst some others.
Talking to the press after the Governing Council meeting ended today, the BCCI chief Manohar said that the interim chairman would look into the matters, for the next one month before the Council will convene again. It was also announced that some of the documents that the IT officials had required off BCCI were missing and Ratnakar Shetty, the CAO of BCCI had been assigned the task of investigating the same.
Manohar also said that the three former cricketers, Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar and MAK Pataudi will look into the matter of the number of foreign cricketers can be allowed in every team for the next edition of the tournament. The three will talk to the franchise owners.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings became the IPL champions when they easily beat Mumbai Indians in the final of the tournament, by 22 runs. The match rarely reached the levels of excitement that were expected out of a final.
