The United States National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA) 2021 has authorized the Air Force to utilize, modify, and operate six Turkish F-35s that were manufactured but never delivered because Turkey was suspended from the F-35 program.

The NDAA which is expected to be passed into law will mean the official exit from the F-35 program for Turkey for continuing with the purchase and operation of the Russian S-400 air defence system (ADS).

The NDAA bill makes no mention of the $1.5 billion advance paid by Turkey to buy the aircraft. Ankara has demanded a refund following the US not delivering two aircraft as per schedule.

Of the six aircraft, two were being used to train Turkish pilots when the row with the US broke out in 2018.

The closure to Turkey's quest for F-35 jets is expected to make it go closer to Russia for modern jets and accelerate efforts on its TX jet project.

There are reports that Ankara may retaliate by restricting US military aircraft flights from its Incirlik air base.

Turkey's options are narrow. Russia won't sell to Turkey because of Turkey's backing of Tripoli government which is hostile to Russia. China won't sell to Turkey because of Turkey's backing of East Turkestan secession. France and Germany won't sell to Turkey because of Erdogan's hostility to Netanyahu.

It will only push turkey to develop her own technology.

Geopolitics is not a child play, bussiness is bussiness, Russia/China both has sell weapon systems to Turkey but they have their own ambition in this case.

it is good for turkey as f35 has more faults,if turkey develop own 5gen jet it will help them in long run as they can earn good money by exporting it to other countries and have freedom of integrating weapon of their choice on this jet

Russia will be super happy to sell, problem is that Russian jets are not even close to F-35.

Like Turkey would buy Russian jets?
Better to upgrade F-16s than to go for Russian useless stuff...

I do not think so. Russia needs money and russia is only in libya to promote itself to the arabs.

Pakistan had sanctions. Best thing ever. Turkish aircraft industry is not all that far behind. They will get the technology and you Israelis are very familiar with turks and their ability to fight.

. . .
The real question here is not whose weapons turkey may buy,or be forced to buy,in the future, but whether turkey will continue to be a nato member,as with this action by the americans it now seems very clear that at least under the chump and erdo regimes, that turkey is effectively frozen out of natos 5th gen airpower upgrade and that its western supplied airpower will be restricted to its current 4th gen capabilities only.
At some point in the near future turkey is likely going to have to make some hard choices.......and it isnt going to be about which countries fighters or sam systems it should purchase either.:agree:

. .
can any Turkish member shed light why it was necessary for Turkey to go for S400 and jeopordize the entire F35 program?
