Singapore to cane Saudi diplomat for molesting hotel intern

SINGAPORE - A married Saudi Arabian diplomat was convicted on Wednesday (Feb 1) of wrongfully restraining a young hotel intern while molesting her twice and of using criminal force on her.

Bander Yahya A. Alzahrani, 39, who is attached to the Saudi Arabia embassy in Beijing, China, was found guilty of kissing the 20-year-old on her neck and hugging her while wrongfully restraining her inside a hotel room in Sentosa on Aug 14.

He was also found guilty, after an eight-day trial, of kissing the victim's neck a second time, touching her improperly and forcing her to touch him in return.

The father of three was in Singapore for a holiday with his family at the time.
In her brief oral grounds, District Judge Lee Poh Choo found the victim to be an "unusually convincing" witness, and her evidence consistent and sufficiently corroborated.

Being young, naive and anxious to do well in her internship, she was keen to leave a good impression and hoped to be employed by the hotel, she said.

"I believe this partly explained her mantra that she cannot offend the guest and hence her conduct on Aug 14, 2016," she said.

"This was also her first encounter of such an incident causing her to be confused, lost, not knowing what to do and being very embarrassed."

The victim's account of what happened in the room had to be "dragged out" from her after hours of cajoling, she added. The victim demonstrated her version of events to various people at different times that day.

She found Alzahrani not to be a credible witness, and not forthcoming during investigations. She said it was at a late stage that he came up with the explanation that the victim stumbled and fell towards him so he placed his hands on her back to support her.

She agreed with Deputy Public Prosecutors April Phang and Kenny Yang that there was no truth in the defence that the victim conspired with other staff to bring these false allegations against Alzahrani to extort money from the rich Saudi Arabian diplomat.

The case has been adjourned to Friday for defence counsel Shashi Nathan, Tania Chin and Marianne Chew to present their mitigation plea.

Alzahrani, who is out on $20,000 bail, could be jailed for up to 10 years and caned on each charge of molestation; and up to three months and/or fined up to $1,500 for using criminal force.

It is believed that Alzahrani was not accorded diplomatic immunity as the offences were not committed in the country of his posting.

 :omghaha: when in singapore, you can't grab em by the poossy!

. .
I heard in Singapore it's legal for a wife to murder a cheating husband as long as it's with her bare hands.

.
Such diplomats need good canning, this will teach them some manners.
Diplomatic immunity doesn't allow you to inappropriately touch women.

This is really fishy since prostitution is legal in Singapore https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_Singapore
so why would he resort to molesting her and while there is no other evidence except for accounts of parties and judge finding the intern

sounds very fishy and seems some sort of victimisation...Kissing should leave some sort of biological evidence..
I'm not convinced at all that justice has been done.

So he initially thought...I'm with the Saudi Embassy...they won't prosecute and then when he had nothing to fall back on...he came up with a lame excuse.

As for why he would do it? How old are you?

Yeah but he could hire the services of a nice "professional" Singaporean woman and a lot of people go to Spore and Thailand for this particular reason.. and why he just kissed her on neck and stopped there because such kind of acts lead to making love and that he did not do under some unexplainable reasons but what I guess is that if they charged him with rape then they would have to come up with biological evidence.. which they don't have.. so I'm totally not buying this crap. There are a lot of anomalies and things do not add up @Khafee sir what do you make out from this story?

Well since prostitution is legal, he could just be forthcoming that he hired her amirite?

These kind of people do not think with their head, they think with something else. The best solution for these sex predators is to remove that something else.

@abdulbarijan is our resident legal expert, who specializes in defending wrongly accused men. He is quite good at it.
I will leave this thread in his capable hands.

Millionaire who said he 'accidentally tripped and penetrated' teenage girl cleared of rape in Saudi Arabia

A millionaire property developer has been cleared of raping a teenager after claiming he accidentally tripped and fell on her.

Ehsan Abdulaziz, 46, was accused of forcing himself on an 18 year-old-girl who had slept on his sofa in his Maida Vale flat after a night out drinking.

The businessman had already had sex with the teenager’s 24-year-old friend, whom he already knew, in the bedroom and said his penis might have been poking out of his underwear when he fell on the teen.

The young woman said she had woken up in the early hours of the morning, with Mr Abdulaziz on top of her, forcing himself inside her.

He claimed he had gone to see if the young woman wanted a t-shirt to sleep in, or a taxi home. But he said she pulled him on top of her and placed his hand between her legs.

His semen and DNA was found inside the young woman, but he said it was possible he had semen on his hands from having sex with the 24-year-old earlier.

In the evidence, Mr Abdulaziz showed how the girl had put her hand behind his head to pull him towards her, which is how he says he fell.

He said: “I’m fragile, I fell down but nothing ever happened, between me and this girl nothing ever happened.”

The women met the millionaire in London’s West End club, Cirque le Soir nightclub, where he invited them to his private table.
The jury acquitted him in just 30 minutes of deliberations.

Mail Online also reported that Judge Martin Griffiths had allowed Mr Abdulaziz to give evidence in private.

He was cleared of one count of rape at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday.

I was just talking about this news with my friend a few days ago... And in the same afternoon I read about the news about the Saudi diplomat in Singapore.

Married Saudi diplomat convicted of molesting hotel trainee

SINGAPORE — A Saudi Arabian diplomat who forcefully kissed and groped a hotel trainee, then spun a tale that it was her ploy to extort money from him, was convicted on Wednesday (Feb 1).

Bander Yahya A Alzahrani, 39, who is married with three children and is based in Beijing, was on holiday here when he committed the offence in August last year while the 20-year-old victim was showing him around a panoramic suite in Sentosa.

He claimed trial to charges that he kissed the victim on her neck and face, and groped all over her body, among other indecent acts. According to prosecutors, he had also asked her for sex, stating that he wanted to “feel the room”.

In convicting Alzahrani of two counts of outrage of modesty and one count of using criminal force on the victim, District Judge Lee Poh Choo chided him for not being forthcoming during investigations.

Asked for comments, the Saudi Arabia embassy in Singapore and China did not respond by press time.

Alzahrani first tried to fend off the allegations by lying that the victim, who cannot be named to protect her identity, had conspired with her colleagues to extort money from him.

At the trial, after his DNA was found on the victim’s back, Alzahrani changed his tune, saying he had helped to support her as she fell towards him — a claim that prosecutors charged was “clearly an afterthought”.

District Judge Lee agreed with the prosecution that the victim was an “unusually convincing witness” who provided consistent evidence corroborated by witnesses, who included her colleagues at the hotel. The victim had “no motive to falsely implicate” Alzahrani, she added. “On the contrary, she (was) worried that this episode may be interpreted negatively, that she was unsuitable for the hotel industry,” said the judge.

Over an eight-day trial in December and January, witnesses testified that the victim was reluctant to divulge what had happened. Details were “dragged out from her after hours of cajoling” by colleagues and security officers at the hotel, the judge noted. District Judge Lee said she did not hold it against the victim for not shouting or calling for help in response to Alzahrani’s advances.

“There is no template on how a victim should or must react. It was obvious to me that the victim in this case was timid and new to the real and harsh world,” she said.

Prosecutors also told the court that the victim was hoping to secure future employment with the hotel. Reporting the incident to her colleagues would have brought “unwanted, unnecessary attention” to her and place her ambitions at risk.

District Judge Lee also noted that it was “most unfortunate” that male police officers were assigned to interview her. “Hence, the victim cannot be faulted if her statements lacked specifics,” she added.

Alzahrani is expected to be sentenced after the court hears his mitigation plea tomorrow.

He could be jailed up to 10 years and caned for each charge of outraging the victim’s modesty. For using criminal force on her, he could be jailed up to three months and/or fined up to S$1,500. KELLY NG
