Well, operation Blue star has a very negative effect here in Punjab. And i believe many people don't know why that happened, because the things happened that time are still hidden from new generation. Even i don't know the reasons. And i believe that, there were many Political reasons also behind that among others.

About treating Sikhs in India , i personally have never felt anything bad regarding my religion in India. Except the black spots of operation Blue star and Delhi 84.

Also as much i have heard Sikhs in Pakistan are also happy except that "Taliban problem"...

And please stick to the topic... :D

Enlightening...Thank you Ratolz. Back to the topic....So is Dr Singh popular in Pakistan given that Sikhs are well liked there.

dabong1 mate...what is the point of this thread?is it to depict the good treatment of sikhs in Pakistan? or a comparative analysis of Sikhs in India and Pakistan?
Believe it or not Sikhs are happy in India too.

I think it would be good if you bothered to read the post before mine where an indian was saying that a muslims shop keeper from a year ago was going to destroy a gudwara and i replied to that.

Listen, I am not even Hindu so its quite obvious that I don't believe in caste system. .

If your a sikh then i think the indian constitution classes you as a sub caste in hindusim.

We repsect our nations sikh alot GOD bless all the people of Pakistan!

Hey can tell me about the Sikh guy who joined the PAK army, where is he now? is he wtill with PAK Army ?

Or He left ?

As for you G.K which is quite low, Sikh religion is formed to protect Hindus from Outsiders, they were taken from Hindus.

In their gurugranth, their is also mention of lord Shiva which is Hindu god.

When they demanded to be identified as different religion , Indian Constitution allowed them.....

Yeah. Please continue the bs.

When I became a Member of Parliament I moved a Private Members Bill for an amendment of Section 25 of the Indian Constitution such that the Sikhs are treated as an independent religion. Under the present Constitution Sikhs are regarded as part of the Hindus. So this amendment is required for getting us independent status. My bill came before the House for discussion twice but due to disturbances in the House no proceeding could take place. Now I am waiting for the next opportunity.

Secondly, I moved another proposal such that a registration clause be added to the Anand Marriage Act of 1908. As present, Sikh marriages can be solemnized as per Sikh rites but the registration of Sikh marriages must occur under the Hindu Marriage Act. I succeeded in getting this proposal approved by the Parliamentary Committee for Law & Justice. The Law Minister has already announced in the House that the amendment Bill will be moved very soon. I am following this closely and am having frequent meetings on this topic with the Minister.

I dont know if you changed the Constitution but a link would be helpful.

freedom of religion in India’s Constitution (Article 25) reads as follows:
Freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion -

(1) Subject to public order, morality and health and to the other provisions of this Part, all persons are equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right freely to profess, practice and propagate religion.

(2) Nothing in this article shall affect the operation of any existing law or prevent the State from making any law -

(a) regulating or restricting any economic, political or other secular activity which may be associated with religious practice;

(b) providing for social welfare and reform or the throwing open of Hindu religious institutions of a public character to all classes and sections of Hindus.

Explanation I – The wearing and carrying of kirpans shall be deemed to be included in the profession of the Sikh religion.

Explanation II – In sub-Clause (b) of clause (2), the reference to Hindus shall be construed as including a reference to persons professing the Sikh, Jaina or Buddhist religion, and the reference to Hindu religious institutions shall be construed accordingly.
