Quite the contrary, Muslim League was formed in reaction to Partition of Bengal.
It however was an elitist party until 1937 elections.

THIS is the reality and what actually happend,
1. Lord Curzon declared his plan to partition Bengal along religious lines in 1905. It was called the Curzon Plan.
2. Partition took place in October 1905
3. CONgress party opposed it and started a mass agitation. Hindus opposed it and has mass protest.
4. Nawabs of Bengal under the encouragement of British started the Muslim League in 1906 and supported the partition of Bengal.
5. Muslim League participate in elections while CONgress BOYCOTT the elections resulting in massive victory for muslim league and they for the govt.
6. Congress organize massive protest and finally in 1911 the partition is rescinded and bengal again become one and capital shift from Calcutta to Delhi.
7. In 1908 Muslim League demanding a separate electorate for the Muslim in all of India.
8. As usual, the british conceded to this "request" of Muslim League by their Morley-Minto Reform 1909 and create separate electorate for muslims.
9. Jinnah join Muslim League in 1913 and become its president in 1916.
10. Congress forced to agree to separate muslim electorate in 1916 as per the Lucknow pact which Jinnah advocated. The Congress also agreed to the idea of one-third seats for the Muslims in the Councils despite the fact that the Muslim population represented less than a third.
