Should've Used Bombs That Destroyed Buildings: Air Force Chief On Balakot

Pakistan had clearly asked indians to show live firing on similar building to prove the point that such bomb do exists.
He know that it is impossible for the building made of such light weight roof to remain intact.

"We counted on the satellites and all the clouds came... it happens. This is war.
This was not war... You were about to start a war, why attack when you are already at disadvantage. The truth is that this was election, you were not even willing to do this stunt but was forced into this by PM Modi. He himself ranted about having cloud cover from radars.

As long as india achieved the objective of skilled 300 terrorists and their operators it is ok. Icing was that an f16 was taken down. Aftermath is that Pak army is scared of India and moving all camps to Afg and behaving suddenly as if they like peace with india .. lol..

Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa said the Air Force targetted terrorists and not structures.

Dras, Jammu and Kashmir:
Highlights
  1. IAF used Spice 2000 bombs to destroy Jaish terror camps
  2. The bomb penetrates buildings and kills human targets
  3. IAF should have dropped bombs that destroyed entire structures: Air chief
Given what he called "propaganda" about the air-strikes on a terrorist base in Pakistan's Balakot earlier this year, Indian fighter jets should have dropped bombs which would have destroyed entire structures, Air Force chief BS Dhanoa has told NDTV.

On February 26, Indian Air Force Mirage 2000 fighter jets had crossed the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and dropped a penetrator variant of the Israeli-made Spice 2000 bomb on a Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp in northeastern Pakistan. This weapon penetrates buildings, kills human targets without necessarily destroying the entire building.

"On hindsight, if you see the propaganda war - we should have dropped the other Spice bomb, one which would have devastated the buildings," Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa said in an interview to mark the 20th anniversary of India's victory in the Kargil War.

The lack of video or photographic evidence had proven to be problematic for the Indian Air Force, particularly after private satellite images of the Jaish camp released a day after the strikes appeared to show intact structures with only a handful of signs of clear bomb damage.

Confirming that imagery from Indian satellites of the impact of the strikes would have been helpful, Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa explained some of the problems which were encountered following the strike.

"We counted on the satellites and all the clouds came... it happens. This is war. Things don't happen exactly as per plan. We went about... that we need to kill the guys - the terrorists - we never went around destroying buildings," he said.

With no satellite images immediately available, the Indian Air Force was forced to rely on high resolution satellite images provided by a friendly partner nation. These images, one of which was shown to NDTV, shows three clear impact points in one of the buildings the Air Force says it struck. However, confidentiality clauses have meant that the Air Force could not publish this image.

The Air Force and the government have been firm that the air strikes were successful in targeting the Jaish-e-Mohammed camp, following a suicide attack on a security convoy in Jammu and Kashmir that left 40 Central Reserve Police Force troopers dead. Pakistan claims that the air strikes missed their targets.

COMMENT
"The operation was carried out to tell Jaish-e-Mohammed that no matter where you are - like in this case they were in Pakistan - we'll come and get you. That message went down loud and clear - both to the Jaish-e-Mohammed and to the Pakistani establishment," he added.

@gambit @500

Gents, you both are ex-military with the relevant experience (especially you, Gambit...since you served in USAF as a fighter pilot/officer) that we don't have. Could you shed some light on IAF chief's claims?

IAF used Spice 2000 bombs, which carry upto 1000kg of payload (Mk. 83 or Mk. 84 warheads). Is it possible that Spice 2000 bombs just penetrate a non-reinforced civilian brick structure and kill humans inside it, without destroying it?

@500 You are an Israeli. Is there a version of Spice 2000 that can do that? From Spice 2000's wikipedia page and few Israeli Defence Forums, what I've gathered is that Spice 2000 is a Stand-off glide bomb, and it is that----shouldn't it be destroying the brick houses it falls on?

Would appreciate the insights.
I have seen the effects of a shape charge that was slightly too big set by engineers trying to blow a mouse hole in a building. The whole building went down....

And why is that so? though, personal belief has nothing to do with facts & findings out there but, curious to know your take on this.

or you want to ask that Balakot Airstrike was a precise miss? and total loss for Indian Propaganda.

I am also on the same camp. I believe the Balakot strike was a deliberate miss by the IAF. The purpose was to score political points by launching strikes inside Pakistan's territory without causing any loss of life and labelling it as a strike against terrorist camps. This gives India the cover that strikes were against terrorist camps, and also hand Modi Jee political browny points because he was elected as a strong man who would stomp Pakistan. Also, understand the psyche of our Indian friends. There was immense pride in the Indian Rearmament of its Armed Forces. Our Indian friends on PDF were openly advocating how IAF will crush PAF within 3 hours, and MIG21 Bisons were enough to deal with PAF. The mindset on the East was the same as that of Israelis against Palestinians.

What IAF underestimated was the ruthless, calculated and efficient response from the PAF. PAF strike package was launched in broad daylight and locked the Indian Brigade HQ before delivering munitions 500 meters away from the target deliberately to show case that PAF can easily launch counter strikes in India with impunity. The false assertion that IAF would stomp PAF was completely destroyed when IAF's premier strike aircraft MKI's with its famed BARS radar couldn't lock onto PAF's fast movers. On the other hand PAF's fast movers were locking on MKI's and taking shots from 70-80km zone forcing the MKI's to evade these shots, turn around and escape in super sonic speeds.

But i think domestically it was a great win for Modi as was reflected in the electoral results. He was able to paint himself as the strong man, and push the narrative that they shot down an F16 when nobody outside India believes it. We should be thankful that today we have Pakistani media that is vibrant and watched by the Pakistani masses to counter any Indian propaganda. I remember during Kargil, we simply had no media to deal with the Indian propaganda that was shown on Star Plus, Zee etc etc because we simply didn't have any private news channels.
