What's new

Should we consider a LPD for our Navy ?

Clearly on a SSBN, cause all that salt water is really making them hallucinate :)

Getting a good sub, like the german Agosta would be a great platform to get accustomed too. Maybe even a Kilo class sub can be donated by China/India? to get your hands dirty with a sub.

Acquiring a sub and operating one are two different ball games, navy would need to launch a major program to send recruits to serve on foreign navies to acquire skill to be able to navigate a sub, where one is flying blind and needs a great deal of skill to navigate based on instruments.

India donating subs to BD, you havin' a laugh mate:lol:....i'd rather have us operate dingis than operate Indian donated goods.

We already sent our boys for training with subs in different countries, quite a while ago.

If china/india donates a sub, it will be probably be a very old one or might not fit with our defence doctorine. So IMO, it will better if we buy our own

Sure it will be old, but its free!!! How bad can it be.Besides, serving on-board someone elses ship as opposed to operating your own is a totally difference experience. Operating ones own also allows one to experience the logistics of maintaining one.

Its a good first start. Even India operated really old foxtrot class subs before it graduated to Kilo and now Akula class. You need to start someplace :)

Its been a while since BD navy personnels extensively getting training of operating subs in Turkey,South Korea and in some other countries and if i am not wrong the place has already been chosen where the subs are going to be stationed and there will be also a new naval base.

Free but maintenance is gonna be a problem cos its old. Not to mention that it might take up limited space in our naval bases.

Thats why we wanna buy new subs for our navy :)

Well, we haven't made our conventional submarines as of yet and our nuke submarine is only done now which would join us next year. Besides, nuke subs can't be sold and even our production rate isn't too fast. Chinese subs are something that Pakistan buys already so I don't know how you intend to fit that into your Navy's doctrine.

But on topic, What use will be an LPD to BN? Are you planning an amphibious assault on Burma? If so, what's the level of border tensions between Bangladeshis and Burmese?

There is more than just flying a national flag on a ship mate. You need to have two main things:

- Requirements
- Doctrine
- Finance management

While you may have finance to buy such ships, the first two are not there at all in BN. Your Navy is a self-defense Navy built to police and monitor potential anti-national activities in and around your coastal region and check on other matters such as illegal smuggling, possible piracy and even 26/11 style possible attacks.

What would an LPD do in your Navy?

Honest question.

What pakistan buys from china isnt gonna affect our defence purchase from china. Anyway we buy defence stuff from pakistan as well

IMO It is worth having an LPD if we had far off islands. But since we dont have it, there is no need for an LPD. Apart from national pride I dont think LPD fits into our defence doctorine as of now. Saving the money up for a frigate or sub is a better decision

we need more frigates ,corvettes ,petrol boats and buy some submarine 1st to support a LPD......without them LPD is nothing but a sitting duck...................
