I think it may be a good idea to introduce a new armored personnel carrier/vehicle, APC, in the Pakistani Army and that is the Turkish Otokar. The Turkish Otokar is a light armored vehicle, that can carry up to 8 passengers, primary weapon "Rafael overhead weapon station", secondary weapon spike missile, operational range 752km, and speed 72mph or 115km/h. I like the design and capability of the Otokar and believe it is a great, cost-effective, and modern armored vehicle that will provide Pakistani army personnel faster, reliable, and safer mode of transportation especially in hostile sectors.

The Otokar was successfully used in the rigid terrain of SE Turkey by the Turkish army against PKK rebels/terrorist. The army was able to quickly deploy and transfer it's soldier and move them around in desired locations using the Otokar.

Currently Pakistan is using the Al-tahla APC.

Here is the Turkish Otokar Cobra below.

This light armored vehicle would be very useful to fight a insurgency as well, as Turkey army's proven it is good for those conditions too.

This would be useful in Buner district, NWFP, Baluchistan, and especially on the border area with India. It would help PA do better routine patrols.

.
You are comparing two different types of vehicle here. Anyway HIT manufactures the Mohafiz which fulfills a similar role.

.
Yes i think keysersoze rightly said about HIT Muhafiz, slight design difference but nothing else i think HIT can modify it too according to the demand of our Army................. any other information on HIT Muhafiz from seniors required...?
Regards

Otokar is the manufacturer. It produces a range of vehicles. This includes 40 different variations of Land Rover Defender 90, 110 and 130 types as well as light armored 4x4 vehicles in various configurations including Cobra, Akrep, Otokar APC, and Otokar Discreetly Armored Station Wagon.

Turkish Otokar

The Turkish Otokar forms a common platform, which can be adapted for various roles and mission requirements including: Armoured Personnel Carrier, Anti-Tank Vehicle, Reconnaissance Vehicle, Ground Surveillance Radar Vehicle, Forward Observation Vehicle, Armoured Ambulance, Armoured Command Post, turreted vehicle for 12.7mm machine gun, 20mm cannon, anti-tank missiles such as the TOW missile/Spike missile or surface-to-air missiles.

no need to spend money on this deal!
Pakistanis producing Muhafiz, it can be slightly upgraded to fit in for this role!
for a bit heavy duty role! pakistan is producing some of the worlds finest APC so let us move on with them!
if we have money we better use it for some attack helicopters!!

regards!

I agree with some of the forumers here. Buying should be a secondary option, I fail to understand why Pakistan and Turkey do not form joint ventures to encourage local developments and productions. Both countries share the same strategies and want to enhance their respective defence industries. Maybe the absence of political will?

now that is a better option!
the only problem seems to be from turkish side as they easily get there hands onto westren systems and get them with ToT so joint ventures with pakistan donot come as primary option! but yes we can form a useful triangle pakistan, chian and turkey and jointly worl on various projects and this will be efficient for both the all of us!
projects like self propelled artillery, APC atack helicoptrers, torpedos, LGB etc can certainly be worked out jointly in more effective manner!

regards!

Good Sugestion by Nutuk & arslan but as we all know that turkey had good ties wiht US and europe and they will never let us to do so...... and turkey is also not willing to go far as we are thinking

.
Ofcourse Pakistan can also develop on her own, every country can. But being realistic neither Pakistan nor Turkey have abundant resources like US, Germany etc. Therefor joint developments make sense but to reach this point you need at least political stability which IMHO is the biggest barrier. Otherwise there are so many areas in which our countries could have cooperated. One area is shipbuilding, both countries have signed a MOU in which Turkey is going to help Pakistan to build corvettes and educate her engineers in ship design. The other cooperation is the U214 project in which Pakistan and Turkey jointly negotiate 3 + 6 submarines. Turkey has already started developments of subsystems for this project, many of those could be applied also on the Pakistani subs.
