Should Muslims Reconsider Animal Slaughter on Eid?

Friday, October 26th, marks the upcoming annual celebration of Eid al-Adha, which commemorates the story of Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael, is a day of celebration around the Muslim world. However, for millions of animals it is anything but a day for rejoicing as this day marks the beginning of ritual animal slaughter.

Many individuals in the Muslim world are either refusing to participate in this ritual or speaking up and asking for an end to animal sacrifice. Some are notable animal advocates such as Amira Hassan from Tunisia, Seçil Aracı from Turkey and Amina Abaza the founder of the Society for Protecting the Rights of Animals in Egypt.

And it isn't just animal advocates who wish to see an end to this ritual. It is average Muslims who are re-evaluating if this ritual is actually part of the tradition of compassion and mercy as espoused by the Quran and the living example of the Prophet Muhammad.....

In all those 1400 years nobody had a problem now what suddenly happened specially after the european countries are banning it some puppets and pretencious muslims have now starting to raise such questions .....hell no we cant leave it ...its a part of our religon and belief ....

also its not only the Eid-ul-Adha when animals are slaughtered rather on every minute of the day animals are slaughtered all over the world regardless of the religon or society for different purposes .... why not these so called social welfare or protectionist stop eating and start compaigning against macdonald, kfc, burger king and many other resturants/food chains ..

Hell i bet they eat ,eat on daily basis and then raise question on muslim rituals ....hypocrits ....

I always cut the animal's jugular myself as should you all. I'm also planning to find a Qasai from whom I can learn to cut the meat too. What a sorry picture that people run away from this sort of thing now. Too much vegetarianism in Muslims.

What is the purpose of sacrificing so many innocent animals, be it any religion?
Rather than sacrificing our inner shortcomings and evil we are sacrificing animals as is we want to bribe a non-existant god.
Muslims and some hindus are worst in this regard.
Why not sacrifice their own limbs and lives instead of killing innocent animals.
Muslims are the most medevial of all living beings and worst of all they dont wanna enlighten themselves.

dont you know about the event? some chunk of the meat of animals is distributed among the poors who cant afford the meat or healthy food throughout the year and remaining chunk is too for eating purpose by the family and neighbors ...so tell me whats better? a poor person who cant afford to grab a healthy food throughout the year eating meat or a rich one who can afford all the supplements still sits in air conditioned restauraunt to have some steaks and other stuff

oh that is something a Hindu should never talk about... but still with all due respect when you feed snakes or rats, even then its not waste, despite it being a ritual carried by temple idol worshippers...

similarly we muslims dont waste that meat, instead we share with each other vertically and horizontally.... one should not have any problem with it....

Atleast Pakistani's should reconsider animal slaughtering because it is costing them too much. Human meat should be much cheaper because many of them are being slaughtered in Pakistan everyday! Sad but true!

Well, if all the food is eaten, then there should be no problem. I heard that there is a lot of wastage during ritual killings as it happens in massive numbers.

BTW, its hindu practice as well (i mean some areas) and I would say it is equally bad.
