Hello friends

OFB has decided to upgrade M-46 howitzers to 155MM/52 cal and fit them on Arjun chassis

My question is Should DRDO ATAGS and 155MM/45 Cal Truck mounted gun based on M-46?

OFB is producing this howitzer from many years so basing ATAGS and truck mounted gun on this will be comparatively easier

Mate, I think @Capt.Popeye is the one to ask about this. As he has already explained- the M-46 is a far more rudimentary/basic gun when compared to the likes of the FH-77 (that the Archer uses incidentally). The degree of automation (self loading), the FCS of the FH-77 and its userbility score far higher than the M-46.

So I think the way the DRDO are going wrt using the FH-77 as a base is a damn good solution whilst the M-46-Arjun solution is a pretty decent stop-gap move.

^^thanks for opinion

Bofors is also good choice as base for ATAGS, but OFB should try to reduce its weight

Its weight should be around 9.5 to 10 tons

. . .
I dont think DRDO or the Army should use a Soviet Era platform that too of 1970s
What about Bofors or do some JV with the Europeans or Russians

What on earth makes you think that the M-46 is from the 1970s?

It dates back to 1954! :D

Now find out about the year of origin of the L-60/70 40mm Bofors AA gun.......... ;)
Which happens to be still in use; not just in the IA but also on board the American AC-130 Herk Gunship.

. .

The gun is the denel design plans. Prototypes of no.s 2 were lying around. Army chief got busy finally! The BHIM is back.

Gun to be used is 155mm/45 cal OFB in truck.

Somewhat- it won't be the Denal gun this time.

It is the denel gun as OFB bought the plans. We have this and another prototype ( white one) in storage. Modi is going to do it anyway. These cong communals are wanting to get little credit for this action.
