The country is facing eight-hour-long power outages amid the merciless ongoing heatwave as the electricity shortfall has reached 5,000 megawatt.

According to power division sources on Wednesday, the electricity shortfall was touching 5,000MW following an ongoing heatwave in the country as the mercury level is touching 44 Celsius in Lahore.

The sources said that 4,000MW was being generated by hydropower. Whereas thermal power plants are generating 3,000MW electricity.

The total production of electricity is 19,000MW while the demand is 24,000MW, the sources added.

However, the power division on the other hand, is citing just 1,500 shortfall as a main cause for eight-hour long loadshedding.

The sources said the power distribution companies’ system is overloaded, adding that 80% transformers were overburdened.

They said that with the rise in demand, feeders were kept tripping. They said that instructions had been given to the power distribution companies to improve their system.

I never get this why independent power producers don't install new systems in order to expand their customer base? They'll just make more money.

What's holding them back? Why are they content with limited and cheap electricity and not thinking about multiplying their profits by supplying more? The demand is always there.

It's so strange.

It takes time, money, and feasibility studies to see if it would even be possible to expand lines to certain areas.

It's not an easy task.

Your dumb nawaz has signed projects based on the power projects produce and not how much is consumed so why would they instal transmission lines.

Wasn't this Government accusing last Government of installing excess power, how is that we are facing a shortfall now if excess power was in the system? Sounds like bad summer planning.

because they get paid regardless based upon capacity payments..
genius isnt it ..
they even lie about their plant, they mostly install an old plant and cliam it can produce at 70% effiency..it is never tested since our distribution cant handle the load

govt doesn't has the capital to invest since after 18th amendment it has no money
while private sector cant come in as power is already very expensive

again thank the 25% return rate after 2013 as compared to 12% RR of 2001

Problem is not power generation capacity Patwari, it's transmission system.

you cant distribute it & cant afford it due to capacity payment & 25% RR

second the requirement is mostly swing requirement, our requirement in winters is half that of summer

so best source would have ben hydro which you can boast during summer season but hey we like furnace oil

Haha are you going to transmit all that excess electricity in shopping bags?

Fighting Patwarism is more difficult than fighting India on PDF 🤓

Pakistani power sector is unique in the world. It has excess power generation capacity but still having chronic loadshedding 😂😂😂

Pakistanis need to make better and more energy efficient houses. ACs work harder and pull more power than necessary to keep the temperature low.

And air-conditioning is a necessity, it's not a luxury anymore. More households will own them in future
