Shocking, shocking, shameful, nothing else

ISLAMABAD: How shocking is the latest list of 11 demands conveyed by Washington to Islamabad? Though rejected outright by defence and foreign ministries, one striking thing that immediately comes to mind is: how dare you? But to be fair, it is not their fault, we have offered ourselves for sale and subjugation. Nothing but shameful.

Congratulations to those, who were taking pride in the post 9/11 policies of General (retd) Musharraf. Look what is happening to the so-called "Frontline State" in the extremely-controversial war on terror.

We were saved from being reverted to the "Stone Ages" but are now being asked to become a conquered state, with no self-respect. Is it time to formally become a US colony after we have already been reduced to American slaves?

We were taught in the school of Tipu Sultan's great saying: "One-day of life of a lion is better than 1000 years of life of a jackal." But what we have experienced and have been reminded time and again after 9/11 is just the opposite of this great lesson of Tipu Sultan. Such messages have turned obsolete, as we have become "pragmatic" today.

Our post 9/11 services to the Americans are acclaimed though the mantra of "do more" never ends. In the "national interest" we handed over hundreds of our own nationals as well as foreigners to Washington during the recent years. We are killing our people to please the Americans and also don't mind if the US forces choose to go for a killing spree of innocents in our territory.

We have given them the license to kill. We also have given them free rights of intelligence. Not only their spy planes (unmanned aerial vehicles) are freely flying in our air space, they have already established a wide network of CIA and FBI agents in Pakistan and that too with the permission of the last military regime.

In return we are getting dollars by the billions and not being pushed back to stone ages. We should be grateful to Mr Bush and his close buddy Mr Musharraf.

Suicide bombings, which have killed hundreds including the PPP's ex-chairperson Benazir Bhutto during these years; direct attacks on Pakistan defence forces; and the Talibanisation of our tribal areas, particularly South Waziristan and Swat district, are the gifts of this Mush-Bush friendship.

Greatly encouraged by our welcoming gestures even at the cost of the lives of our people, Washington has overtly started dictating to us as to what kind of government they want to see in Pakistan after the 2008 elections. The likes of Negropontes, Bouchers and Pattersons are, and have been, active to configure a government in Islamabad of their choice. They say that they are doing it in the best interest of Pakistan.

The Americans are also resisting the restoration of the deposed judges. Though a very large population in Pakistan is demanding the reinstatement of pre-Nov 3 judiciary, Washington does not deem it to be in the best interest of Pakistan and the people of Pakistan. They know we don't deserve justice and fair play because otherwise questions would be asked about the missing persons and there would be some accountability for those attacked and killed in the name of al-Qaeda, Taliban or extremists. People are now expecting from their newly elected parliament, and the future government to review Islamabad's unqualified support to the war against Muslims, in the name of war on terror and get us back our lost independence.

Leaders of the winning political parties have already indicated to do so. One man's rule is over and now we have the peoples' representatives to decide the fate of this unwanted war.

Good to know that pakistani schools are teaching about Indian warrior Tipu Sultan.

Regd the article, yes US punches their allies in the face and gives them money for it. They made use of jihadis in their war agaist Soviets, and now that is backfiring them in the shape of al-queda.

Call me coward, but I'd choose to be "pragmatic" over being "bombed to the stone age".

Pragmatism pays in the long run. Living like a lion for a day, leads to an eternity of suffering.
I don't agree with these notions of "pride" and "shame". There is nothing to be ashamed about, and pride stems from using your brains, not some misplaced sense of superiority.

Unwarranted statement!

Looks like you are from the 15th century, when Indian civilization [Including the now pakistani region] was considered as Hindu.

Was that your dream or what ? Dont even dream that Indian muslims will be carried away by statements like yours. Litracy among muslims in India is higher than that of Muslims in Pakistan, and religious madraasa's are almost non existant.

All I will say is he was an INDIAN warrior from the south Indian city of Mysore, and I dont see any reason why Pakistanis should be inspired by an Indian warrior.

Before you comment about Muslims or Hindus of INDIA, read this.

This article is for those who dont know anything about the atrocities commited against hindus in Pakistan.

Hindu Human Rights - Serving Hindus Worldwide

Books Won’t Tell YouThere is a lack of awareness across the world about the very existence of a significant yet dwindling Hindu community in Pakistan. Presently it is estimated that Hindus make up 2% of Pakistan’s population. This is at least five times the number of Hindus in Britain.

Before the end of colonial rule in 1947, the land that was to become Pakistan had a large proportion of Hindus, accounting for over 26% of the population. The Partition of India was the biggest forced migration of people in human history, and was accompanied by large scale massacres. During this period, the population of Hindus dropped to 15% in this region.

Even though there was heavy risk, many Hindus chose to remain in their ancestral homeland and were promised protection by the Government of Pakistan. However in practice, Hindus found it very difficult to live in Pakistan, where they were very vulnerable and often subject to persecution.

There was a constant level of crime and harassment against Hindus in Pakistan. The constitution and legal system that was framed for the new country openly discriminated against Hindus. During periods of tension between India and Pakistan, Hindus were killed and expelled in large numbers. In 1965 a law was passed that openly incited and legitimised confiscation of Hindu property. This was called “The Enemy Property Act”. Therefore the Hindu population steadily dropped.

During 1970 and 1971, huge massacres were perpetrated upon Hindus, by the Pakistani army. A proper study into the casualty figures has never been conducted. Estimates for the number dead are up to 3 million. Millions of Hindu women were raped and kidnapped in this period. It was one of the largest massacres in recent history, and also one of the most ignored.

In 1977, General Zia ul-Haq led a military coup in Pakistan. He introduced Islamic Law, which further excluded and marginalised Hindus.

In 1989 and 1992 over 300 Hindu temples were destroyed. Many Hindus lost their homes. The largest outward migration of Hindus from Pakistan since Partition took place during these years.

Unbelievable as it may seem, Hindus still exist in Pakistan, numbering over 2.5 million. The Hindu population is largest in the Sindh province, but there are Hindu communities dotted all over Pakistan. They suffer constant threats against their security, property and lives. Hindus in Pakistan have to live a very low profile existence, and have to put up with many insults to their honour and dignity, with no legal safeguards. They authorities in the country rarely intervene to help Hindus, and often make matters worse. There are regular reports of kidnapping of Hindu women and children, looting of Hindu property, and other forms of discrimination, persecution and dehumanisation.

Unfortunately the international media and human rights groups do not take much of an interest in all this. Together with the apathy of the general public around the world, this has meant that the Hindus of Pakistan remain a forgotten and voiceless people. The brutality that has been melted out to the Hindus in Pakistan knows few parallels in history.

Until decent minded people across the world show concern for the fate of the helpless and speak out for those without a voice, there is little hope for the Hindu men, women and children who remain in Pakistan

Hi,

There were many hindu warlords and warriors in Sultan Tippu's army---it was not a solely muslim army. They both died fighting for the same cause---hindus and muslims dying side by side facing the enemy for the same cause, I believe in the 4th battle of mysore.

There were tens of thousands of muslim soldiers in the hyderabad army supporting the british in the conquest of Mysore against the muslim Sultan Tippu---you conveniently forgot about their treachery.

Please let us not be disrespectful to each other at every oppurtunity we get.

"If they want peace, nations should avoid the pin-pricks that precede cannon"

It matters not whether Tipu Sultan was a Indian or Pakistani or a Hindu or a Moslem.

He is a part of history.

And history is what encourages those who follow to do better.

What a stereotype of a thought!

Get something new for a change.

Perhaps you should have read the first reply!

Tippu Sultan is part of Pakistan history.

Coming off with ignorant comments (or perhaps flame baits) and saying "oh my god! its glad to know that Tippu Sultan stories are being taught in Pakistan schools! oh wow! Tip Sultan the INDIAN WARRIOR!"

******* ridiculous!
