SIALKOT: Bangladesh High Commissioner Suhrab Hossain has said that Bangladesh and Pakistan are two brotherly Islamic countries, which enjoy long common history and culture.

He was addressing local businessmen and exporters at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Thursday. He said that despite close ties between both the nations, there were ample opportunities to strengthen ties in the fields of commerce.

The envoy was of the view that good communication had always played a vital role in establishing good business relations. He suggested that a shipping line should be established to link Karachi with Chittagong. He also proposed that direct flights should be started from Dhaka to Sialkot to improve communication between businessmen of both the countries.

He also stressed the need to establish trade links between the chambers of commerce of Dhaka and Sialkot for strengthening mutual trade. He added that there were opportunities of launching joint ventures with Sialkot businessmen in different trade fields and several Bangladeshi companies were expressing interest in this regard.

He agreed to the SCCI’s proposal on regular exchange of information and mutual trade delegations to enhance the trade between both countries. He asked the Sialkot-based businessmen to divert their businesses to Bangladesh besides participating in all the industrial exhibitions and trade fairs in Bangladesh. The envoy assured that Bangladesh would increase its cotton and yarn exports from Pakistan. Later, he visited Sialkot International Airport and pledged to make all-out efforts to bring Bangladeshi airlines here as soon as possible.
