I still remembered my first time of CRH(China Railway High-speed) journey back in 2008 when I traveled in Jiangnan as a newbie backpacker. The train was from Nanjing to Changzhou on the upgraded old Nanjing-Shanghai Line. At that time, I hoped CRH trains would operate in my hometown, cosy, speedy and punctual. Then, it came true with the inauguration of Wuhan-Guangzhou HSR Line in 2009. In 2010, I took a slow train from Wuhan to Guangzhou for approximately 10 hours and when I took a CRH train back, amazingly, less than 4 hours(1069km)!

In 2011, when the Wenzhou train collision happened, I was adventuring in Tibet, grieved, frustrated and in unbearable agony of mountain sickness of EBC’s 5200 metre above the sea level. Later, the speed of CRH was lowered from 250/350kph to 200/300kph in spite of the fact that this accident should be attributed mostly to poor management rather than technology itself. Later, media’s criticism, netizens’s hatred and perhaps aviation giants’ lobbies impelled the whole HSR business to be nearly on the verge of collapse. Whereas, when it came to 2014, all of a sudden, HSR in China seemed to receive its brightest afterlife.

I have been keeping an eye on CRH’s development for long no matter when it was at its lowest scenario or in its supreme glory. As for me, Taoist ideas are deeply rooted in my thoughts, a sort of juste-milieu, i.e., speaking highly of CRH while it was at its lowest point and finding something inadequate and deficient while it was highly acclaimed by the majority. Blind oppositions and maniac supports do nothing good for the country.

After my murmuring and gabbling, I’d like to tell you, I post this thread mainly to encourage anyone who has some real experiences of CRH journeys to talk about your personal story. You can just upload a photo of your own(news pictures are abundant enough here in PDF) or tell us one of your trips by CRH. Besides, you are advised to point out some shortcomings you’ve perceived during your own CRH trips and of course, modest compliments are welcomed when you truly find something worth praising.

Oh the trains are wonderful to travel on. They maintain a proper time table and they are very simple to use even if one is not fluent in Chinese. The only drawback is the lack of staff fluent in English. Haikou to Sanya in April 2011 was a pleasant trip with no real stories to tell because the journey was quick and quiet.

Yes. English is a major problem for railway stuff in China, always.

No it was very easy as the route for Hainan railway is very uncomplicated, the issue is more to do with additional questions one may have regarding dining etc. Chinese are working hard on their English skills and I am sure by 2020 the results will show.

Thanks again for sharing. Sometimes I couldn't understand those English radio announcements, maybe just because of my own poor English listening.:lol:

I have to visit China once for sure, is it easy to travel around the country ?? I mean I have been to Hongkong but not the country side and the Mainland China.
I do recommend you travel city around china with HSR so that you can not only enjoy the modenism of cityscape but also apriciate scenery the country side.The devepment of chinese inland city may impressed you more than you can image. .By the way,It is convenient and ecnomical to have a train trip instead of aircraft.

Yes visiting, this May :) I'll plan it all as a lone wolf trip :D Just take a backpack and roam around, I'll take a sleeping bag too if don ot find place to stay will use it ;)

"23 July 2011 – ChinaWenzhou train collision" please check this list out from the date of our train tragedy
to present.
