New York: Under attack from Shiv Sena for his remarks on the IPL fiasco, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan on Tuesday said he was not apologetic for favouring the inclusion of Pakistani players and termed the activities of the party as "undemocratic".

Standing by his comments, Shah Rukh asserted he believed that every Indian would agree that India is a "good country" and that "everyone is welcome as a guest", but at the same time said too much importance was being attached to the words of "just an actor".

"It makes me feel that activities like this are unhealthy, undemocratic. You can only say what you believe in and stand by it and hopefully I will have the strength to do so," Khan told reporters when asked about the Shiv Sena protests back home.

"As an Indian I'm not ashamed, guilty or unhappy about what I said neither am I sorry," he said.

Following the IPL snub, Khan who is also the owner of Kokata Knight Riders franchise, had spoken against ignoring the Pakistani players and said he would take in cricketers from across the border if his team had an empty slot.

Shiv Sena activists reacted angrily terming it an issue of patriotism, burnt the posters of his upcoming film 'My Name is Khan,' and took their protest to his bungalow in Mumbai.

The party has threatened to not allow the screening of the film, unless the actor apologises

Malay - its true many educated marathis support mns / shivsena, but the problem is nobody else gives two hoots about what they face. My house where we have lived for 35 years, we can no more go out after 9 in the night as all footpaths are occupied and its not safe for women to be out, my wife from UP will tell you how the local congress goons protect this illegal occupation, totally destroying the quality of life we were used to, and there's nothing we can do as our votes do not matter as we are outnumbered. Remember that call from sonia asking visalrao to stop demolishing slums in mumbai in 2005?

Muslim groups protest against Shiva Sena for targeting Shah Rukh Khan

NEW DELHI - A number of activists from various Muslim organisations took to streets in the capital on Monday to protest against Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray for targeting Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan for wishing Pakistani players should have been picked for the upcoming edition of the IPL tournament.

The activists from various Muslim organisations burnt posters bearing the image of Bal Thackeray, founder and chief of the Shiv Sena party.

“Our message is that Shah Rukh (Khan) and Aamir (Khan) are the pride of our nation. Bal Thackeray, the chief of Shiv Sena, has no right to give this certificate of ‘traitor’ to anyone. First he should sort Maharashtra, his own state, out. Sometimes he raises issues about Maharashtra and north India and now Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. I want to ask Bal Thackeray whether he plans to take up all of India’s causes,” said one protestor.

The rally in New Delhi comes after Shiv Sena protestors demonstrated outside ‘Mannat’, the actor’s Mumbai bungalow on Sunday (January 31) and burnt posters of his upcoming film ‘My Name is Khan’ on Friday (January 29).

At the IPL auctions held in Mumbai on January 19, none of the eight franchise teams bid for the 11 Pakistani players.

Pakistan cricket team, the current world T20 champion, played in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008.

But they were denied permission by Islamabad last year due to tensions between India and Pakistan following the Mumbai attacks on November 26 2008.

Team owners said they did not bid for Pakistani players this year because they were apprehensive about the availability of the players.

Khan also added that the Kolkata Knight Riders did not bid for a Pakistani player as they had reached their cap on foreign players, after choosing Kiwi fast bowler Shane Bond.

The IPL is India’s Twenty20 domestic competition played in the month of April and May at various venues throughout India. (ANI)

Maharashtra govt comes to SRK's rescue, warns Shiv Sena

Politics over Shiv Sena's violent protests against Shah Rukh Khan, calling him a traitor for saying that Pakistani cricketers should be allowed to play in the IPL, has intensified.

Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil has now come out in open support of Shah Rukh Khan and warned Shiv Sena against disrupting the screening of My name is Khan.

"Shiv Sena will have to pay through its nose if it indulges in ransacking or disturbing theaters screening movies of actor Shah Rukh Khan," said Patil.

NCP leaders also took the opportunity to target Shiv Sena chief over the flip-flop on cricketer issue

"Bal Thackeray must remember that he was the one who invited Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad, who is related to India's most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, at his residence. He should apologise to India," said NCP Minority Wing leader Nawab Malik.

Shiv Sena's strategy of trying to gain political mileage from one the country's most popular men and a youth icon could possibly backfire.

If Shiv Sena and Shah Rukh Khan were the only political entities in India to vote for, trust me Shah Rukh will get 99,9% of the votes. What can and what did Shiv Sena as a party do for India? Shah Rukh on the other hand, will single handedly go to Pakistan and kick the heck out of the Taliban. Then he will eat up their nukes by single handedly taking on the Pakistani army. Then he will return to India all wounded and beaten up back to his mother begging her for forgiveness for not getting her blessings before he left for his mission and the story will end with him marrying a Pakistani heroine who helped him accomplish his mission. Offcourse if he had Amir Khan as his President of Indian then both of them would have jointly swallowed Pakistan and China and had Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as desert. All this while the Indian army stood back and allowed our super heroes to finish their mission.

I dont understand why there is so much media publicity for all these type of news... These film actors have started acting in the public also. All the film actors are there to earn money only, nothing else Period... Tell me 1 good thing all these actors done to the society???

Only good thing this Shah Ruk khan has done to the public is not doing anything, unlike these Shivsena or MNS - these goons have created lot of problems..
More over Amir khan is a better actor than Shahrukh.... Shahrukh is all media made King..

you cannot defend 11 player, none of them even offered a bid, by 8 selectors giving lame reasons. Admit that India has made blunder and Hindu Extremist is responsible for that. Apologize from Pakistani players and that might reduce our anger.
