Why not......an illustration...Ramgarh (an indian military base and staging area), which was one of our objective in 1971, is just 46 kms from our border.....SH-15 can fire in excess of 50 kms.....so....

better yet Faridkot , one of the major artillery garrisons and the only one one with Self Propelled Artillery near the Pakistani Border is located <40km from border line , that allows SH-15 to engage the garrisson from well within Pakistani territory.

Pakistan should look into ramjet artillery shells as well. They can give our sh-15’s the same range as a-100 while being harder to intercept.

They did not Go from tac nukes to shells......we just added more to our inventory of options.

As far as the second part of your question is concerned, i believe we had them for quiet some time, more than 20 years ago.

This is not a problem but something that has been happening for at least 2 straight years now, for a multitude of systems mostly since after Balakot and then Galwan. I have said this elsewhere, but these two incidents have changed the Chinese strategic calculus for the region (India pretty much did a self-goal on this).

I reckon the ammo ToT could involve several types: V-LAP/HE ERFB RA/BB for the 50+ km range coverage plus various guided types, especially laser (to work in tandem with the Army's drone ops) and GPS/INS. If HIT's 155 mm gun pans out, the Army could start moving the bulk of its artillery to 155 mm and 105 mm (for lightweight applications) and, in turn, induct V-LAP and guided shells service-wide. It's a huge capability jump, especially when combined with the large guided-rocket (Fatah-1 and A100), drone acquisitions (for both ISTAR and attack), and 122 mm guided rockets.

If the Army's syncing with the PLA, I'd probably keep an eye on the VT5 at this point.

I would personally rather they invest in modern IFVs rather than something like the VT-5. PAs tank fleet doesn’t need much more of an upgrade as long as they keep inducting VT-4s, AK-1s and AK-2s and I don’t see how a light tank would fit into our doctrine specifically (I’m sure it can, but IFVs or APCs sound like a much better investment).

Indian media / forums et al are reacting far more to the sale of SH-15 than anything I've read even on the J10C buy. Any idea why? Arty seems to hurt 'em more? =)

IFV falls in totally different category then a TANK. VT 5 could be great for plains in Punjab and our Para military forces

In that case it's more justified to have atleast 1000 Sh-15. No ?

Perhaps, but could affect HIT's in-house 155 mm gun. Basically, all 155 mm artillery pieces should be made VLAP compatible.
