Severing ties with Pakistan dangerous: Mullen

US chief of the armed forces Mike Mullen has said Pakistan was passing through a difficult period.



Pakistan was severely criticized by the world after killing of Osama Bin laden. The world should give time to Pakistan for getting out of difficult times, he added. If ties are not maintained with Pakistan, the US would have to repent after two decades, he warned.



Cutting ties with Pakistan could be very dangerous.

As i've said in many posts that if US really want to help Pakistan & stop it becoming radicalized & dangerous than it should start trade with Pakistan. Make Pakistani products tax free & purchase alot from Pakistan. And instead of giving aid's to leaders like zardari & co US should spend that money for making powerplants in Pakistan & spending on police force & health/education sectors.

I think Pakistan is at a point where it understands that the terrorists are a huge threat to Pakistan (PNS Mehran incident signified this), & that the terrorist network in FATA is too extensive, & that Pakistan cannot play "good Taliban bad Taliban" anymore. While the US is willing to negotiate with the Afghan Taliban (Mullah Omar group in Quetta) in the Afghanistan end game (that distances itself from the Al-Qaeda), pretty much all the terrorist networks in the FATA (Haqqani network, TTP Mehsud, TSNM, Waziri group etc) have strong ties/all weather relations with the Al-Qaeda, & the Pakistan administration has realized that Al-Qaeda is an inherent threat to it. Meaning that Pakistan is ready to destroy all the networks that have strong ties with the Al-Qaeda, which most probably includes the Haqqani network as well. The US knows that the Al-Qaeda is an inherent threat to Afghanistan & the whole region, with the Al-Qaeda affiliated LeT also one of the main targets of the US. Pakistan does not gain anything from the LeT either, as it burned its bridges with them since 2001; & the LeT has become a huge security threat to Pakistan as well, & I think Pakistan has realized that too.

This is one of the few times the US has conducted drone strikes in South Waziristan, & I am sure this happened with the full authorization & co-operation of the Pakistan's ISI (most probably through the intelligence provided by the ISI). The ISI has realized that its intelligence network is not as strong in the FATA as it thought it had. There is no condemnation of these strikes either from the Pakistani government, which goes to show that Pakistan was fully on-board with these events. In the past, the ISI was kept out of the loop in the drone strikes, & it resulted in a lot of innocent civilians being killed. Now, it seems like the ISI is sharing intelligence with the US, & that is resulting in a lot of terrorists being killed in FATA right now. It looks like Pakistan has burned its bridges with all the terrorists, & is looking to destroy the all the networks. So Laughing Soldier, please don't be blinded by your hatred for Pakistan.

US wanted to do same to Iran and North korea but they threaten any action like this will be all out war. Terrorists , militants , insurgency , anti-state , non-state actors or anything else a sovereign and capable state never think of daily drone attacks on its citizens which are killing large number of people. No country allow so many bases to foreign countries either.

Pakistan need to act on its territory by own.

People have worked on this since Pakistan's birth. Up until the late 1960s Pakistan was one of the best and most efficient users of foreign aid. However, starting with the 1965 war Pakistan's leaders made a conscious decision that development was not as important as glory and conquest.

And instead of giving aid's to leaders like zardari & co US should spend that money for making powerplants in Pakistan & spending on police force & health/education sectors.

Benazhir Bhutto did try borrowing funds to improve education; the effort died when she was kicked out of the PM office. I am against the idea of providing assistance for electricity generation. Enriching uranium takes up a lot of electricity - an enrichment plant consumes enough to power a city - and that is what new capacity is used for. Pakistan doesn't need nuclear bombs as much as it needs good governance.
