Property prices are actually cheaper compared to salary in BD than in India as per below:

http://www.numbeo.com/property-investment/rankings_by_country.jsp with Bangladesh at ratio of nearly 9
and India at nearly 10 price to income ratio.

So the two major components of the cost of living to the average BD and Indian citizen end up roughly the same cost, then why the massive difference in PPP multiplier? Only logical explanation is that stuff like cars and electronics such as TVs are much lower in India than in BD. This makes sense for developed countries as these items are an integral part of the consumption habits in rich countries but they are not applicable to S Asia.

Again, how on earth can BD citizens live 3-4 years longer than Indian citizens and have a standard of living 40% lower? It makes no sense even when you take into account the Indian average being taken down by the BIMARU states.
TV price is not much different in India and Bangladesh.Bangladeshi tv brand is now supplying majority of tv in BD. What making difference is basket goods like car, wine, beer,Marlboro cigarette,Cappuccino,McMeal at McDonalds. You know these are very essential items in developing countries like BD, India.

Bangladesh doesn't have a middle class, they only have a small number of rich and a huge number of poor (that explains their 2 per 1000 personal car). So the handful of rich with internet connections cook up these stories of good life in Bangladesh, but the voiceless majority of poor know the truth. :)
Oh really?..Bangladesh is 126th most inequal country in the world...out of 141....India is 14th...and a country where automobile are taxed upto 350% to discourage people from buying cars number of people owning cars isn't really a indicator for anything.

.
I'm not talking property prices (these will be more pricey in Indian cities and suburbs for sure). I'm talking the price of land to build large industry* and large scale manufacturing** outside the cities. Almost every bit of Bangladesh is inhabited densely except for where the terrain is not flat (CHT etc). There is no cheap more "available" land to buy like say between Bombay and Pune....or between TN and Bangalore or the satellite towns of Delhi that does not impact tens of thousands of people per acquisition (and this reflects in the combined cost of acquiring the land and not just the land price by itself). You can see the results of this basic difference in the range and depth of goods and services India produces compared to Bangladesh.

*/** it is the products made by such activities that diminsh the cost of logistics, transport and energy which feed into helping a country's external account + internal logistical efficiency which lead to the PPP multiplier. The exposure of this gap over time to external markets is what "operationalises" the PPP into nominal.

The VAST majority of the daily expenditures of the common BD and Indian citizen is property and food. I have proved that the cost is almost identical in both countries.

So let us have some actual hard data, like I have provided, as to why India has much higher PPP multiplier than BD.

These @Nilgiri guy is either stupid or just trolling as he provides no hard data but his own opinions here.

I think TVs are still somewhat cheaper in India than BD but not to the same extent as cars

I think BD willfully depressed per capita gdp figure and ppp multiplier for international trade and loan benefit. You Know BD is still on LDC.I have read an article some days ago which says that BD need to borrow large amount of money quickly for infrastructure development as our graduation to lower middle income catagory will increases the interest rate.So it is the last chance of BD to borrow money at lower interest.Even after GDP base upgradation we still using 2005-2006 base year, while India is using 2010-2011 for a long times. All these are lowering our apparent size of economy.I think if you compare India and BD in same matrices in all accounts,we are either at per with india in income or have crossed already.

Even after all these discrepancy BD's per capita income is 80 percent of India.

I donno who made such dubious rankings, what is the method, etc., but these are dubious for sure! :tsk:

The specific price level data will be with Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.

Here is the methodology used by ICP:

(Read Overview and Chapter 4 specifically).

Let the uneducated hindutva turds troll. These lack knowledge of BD. Their superiority complex is based on the same vedic power that propelled their ancient spaceships

There needs to be a certain level of inequality for growth to happen. If everyone earns the exact same average income in Bangladesh for example (1300 or so USD per year whatever that is in Taka), there would be close to 0% growth.

Its why China for example has one of the worlds highest Income Gini out there. No one is about to say Bangladesh is doing better than China economically because it has a better Gini.

Only after the economic transition into higher income developed status does a country slowly mature towards greater equality again (depending on its social welfare programs - but often at the cost of further growth depending on transfer efficiency).

Same exact thing was seen in the Asian Tigers before China (South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong ,Singapore). They were highly inequal during their major growth phase and only smoothened out after their growth rates moderated as they approached their long run frontier supply.

I also have issues using Gini for Wealth as opposed to income, but thats a seperate topic.

We may consider Kolkata a modern city only if open defecation becomes a parameter of modernity. :)

We may consider Bangladesh to be not poor only when its poverty rate isnt so phenomenally high.

Bangladesh is still considered a "LEAST" developed country.....lumped in with places like Somalia and Niger.

. .
Of course we are a poor country, so is India. :)

We are much less poor than you on average. Our absolute poverty rate by global definition is much much lower.

Thats why India is not a Least Developed Country like Bangladesh.

Technically Bangladesh is now a lower middle income country, under same classification that India is.

India still possess the largest number of multidimensional poor and the largest number of modern slaves in the world.
