BERLIN (AFX) - Saudi Arabia is working secretly on a nuclear program, with help from Pakistani experts, the German magazine Cicero reported in its latest edition, citing Western security sources.

It says that during the Haj pilgrimages to Mecca in 2003 through 2005, Pakistani scientists posed as pilgrims to come to Saudi Arabia.

Between October 2004 and January 2005, some of them slipped off from pilgrimages, sometimes for up to three weeks, the report quoted German security expert Udo Ulfkotte as saying.

According to Western security services, the magazine added, Saudi scientists have been working since the mid-1990s in Pakistan, a nuclear power since 1998.

Cicero, which will appear on newstands tomorrow, also quoted a US military analyst, John Pike, as saying that Saudi bar codes can be found on half of Pakistan's nuclear weapons 'because it is Saudi Arabia which ultimately co-financed the Pakistani atomic nuclear program.'

The magazine also said satellite images indicate that Saudi Arabia has set up a program in Al-Sulaiyil, south of Riyadh, a secret underground city and dozens of underground silos for missiles.

According to some Western security services, long-range Ghauri-type missiles of Pakistani-origin are housed inside the silos.

Pak does not want other Muslim countries with nuke tech. Undermines our authoritative position.

They've been saying this for over a decade now. One would figure Saudi would've had the bomb by now then if it were true.

Why do Saudis need nuclear program now?

Isn't threatening to rise oil prices enough for them to unstable a dependent saudi oil, nation?

Oil is not a weapon to fight in a war with.
A detterent of nuclear war looks an ultimate safe passage for weak countries now. Saudi dictators believe in it as well. They know their masters can turn against them at any time. Remember 9/11 was done, or is alleged to be done, by Saudis. The price is payed by Afghanistan and Iraq. Saudi can come in line of US fire at any time. And they know it.

Saudi's don't have the basic infrastructure to even get started.
Anything they buy yet will be directly placed under IATA safeguard.

KSA is not Pakistan, the only advantage is oil money. Everything else will have to come from abroad.
Now try to make a bomb in post 9/11 era. :disagree:

hmmmmmmmm i guess he saw the nukes at a local grocery store shelf but the upc codes were from saudia.(little tag in the back said do not wash with warm water donot dry clean and what ever u do donot keep it near fire ..MAde in PAkistan)
saudies decided to finance pakistani scientist why couldnt they have financed there own :disagree: am i to belive saudies of all decided to have the pakistanies scientist train with there money and then pakistanies will train saudies. some thimes i wonder u must not need brain to be westren journalist.or being jewish is good enough as 99% of westren media is owned by them.

through out the 90s we were under sanctions and our fighter jets and other military equipment were parked as of no spare parts being available.did the sauides send some over oh wait they didnt but they did finance mad-rasshas in pakistan and destablize the country as of terrorist attacks and scretarian violence.
how many times have the spoken in favour of pakistan against india let me tell ya 0 THATS right not even once so please spare me if i dont belive that our nukes are paid by saudies while we are 35 to 40 billion in debt:coffee:

We are taking about ready-made available nuke tipped missiles! Saudis are very desprate now. The situation in the gulf make them very suspicious of Uncle SAM. They can pay any amount to get these nuke tipped missiles. And remember there are NON-SECULAR Scientists and Engineers in Pakistan who think about Ummah first then any thing else. You are viewing this situation from your secular and patriotic angle, so you are missing the point.

AsSalam oAlaikum
These news always annoy me. Is nuclear bomb making a "chooran" that the Thailey Wala can transfer the knowledge of how to make it in 2-3 clandestine visits? People forget that it takes years to acquire the knowledge and sort out the technical glitches before you can cross the nuclear threshold. Saudia neither has the know how , nor the will or the BALLS to stand against American pressure and go nuclear. They would much rather buy a bomb than make it. I think reading and paying head to these reports is a waste of time.

Every journey begins with a first step. The news reports suggest that the Saudi's are now really interested for the first time to pursue nuclear technology. They do run small experimental nuclear facilities already and contact by their scientists with Pak. ones will lead to a slow but sure flow of ideas and know how.

If Iran is five years from making a nuclear devise than Saudi is 15 years away from it.

You all understand this is a really old topic. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are monitored by the US especially post 9/11. The Saudi military is 90% dependent of foreign weapons, and training. There's no way Pakistan and Saudi could be doing something like this.

Why do the Saudis need nuclear weapons? Will they be used to protect the Saud family???

Brother I agree with your point about starting the journey. However, the American influence over the house of Saud is such that, I seriously doubt they will be able to progress in this field. The other problem is procuring the infrastructure to start the research. Y ou will agree that the world is a much more closely guarded place post 9/11. I think, procuring the materials / cerntrifuges would be very difficult in todays atmosphere. What is happening in Iran, and Korea is due to their "imports" 10 yrs or so ago.

idiots!!!!!
every muslim nation needs a nuclear weapon.
israiel is strong enough to conquer lands from palestine to saudiarabia.
destabalizing Pakistan and capturing its nuclear weapons are the last & the ultimate objective of usa, israiel, west and india. Then they can easily take over arab world and its oil and thus establish a new world order!
Pakistan will use its nuclear weapon if threatened!
