As predicted, the IMF and Saudi will have a bigger impact on the establishment than PTI. This is definitely going to make the nights for COAS more difficult. The establishment has no other way out, Imran must be brought back into power.

It's clear to the Saudis (and others) that PDM does not have intelligence or acumen to run a modern day economy. Fixed currency, falling exports, huge subsidies, low taxation, massive undocumented economy with no plan to correct any of the above means that giving money to Pakistan is the same thing as setting cash on fire. Neither GCC or China will continue to lend unless they see different faces with a clear plan.

This demonstrates that the establishment either is too stupid to make decisions for the country or is actually treacherous to Pakistan.

I think it is not clear whether IMF and Saudi et. al. are dissatisfied with the present political setup or Pakistan itself. Even if by magic, Imran Khan creates the next government, there is no pathway to solvency as far as the eye can see unless many creditors agree to forbearance for a long time. In that case, it may be advantageous for them to push for default and then dictate how the debt pie has to be divided. At least it will give them visibility and they can dictate budgetary process to their preference. Now, only IMF is the king of the jungle and others have to stand by and watch in silence.

Overseas Pakistanis will ramp up remittances and other forms of investment if IK gets a majority in next elections. The key is getting overseas Pakistanis involved. When IK was in power the economic figures were very promising despite COVID and inflation. Pakistan can overcome this crisis if expats play their part.

Then they should send a message to the power brokers and kingmakers in Pakistan and get IK in power instead of allowing Pakistan to go through a forced default with all the suffering it entails. A default will needlessly waste a decade or two of development as all investors will become gun shy of investing in Pakistan. Argentina is still going through its default ripples though it is a much more resource rich country with better polity. BTW, why are the Saudi's and others not helping out with Egypt's default-lite?

This reminds me when the journalists such as Kamran Khan and Kamran Shahid, among a few others, were saying that the new Army Chief due to his past assignments in Saudia was close to the Saudi leadership and that would be helpful in getting economic help from the Arab world.

Guess that was a hogwash too.
